A&Q about Lotus
Q:
Saw a picture of an Elise with a huge wing and an AZ plate. Maybe Mr. Z?
A:
It is Fred's car. Driven by Fred Z and Robert Puertas.
A:
Where was the pic posted?

Last Picture. Good luck to all the Elise drivers in Topeka with and without killer wings.
A:
I'm guessing it's up high to get clean air?
A:
That wing looks soooooo silly.
A:
The Sword of Damocles
A:
Hahaha that wing is crazy. Not being an auto-x person myself, I'm guessing the huge wing is needed to produce reasonable downforce at the relatively low speeds the course is run at?
A:
shades of Jim Hall and the Can Am days...
A:
Downforce at 50mph?
A:
As Cade put it at the SD practice, "That wing is good for at least 40 pounds of downforce, and thats without any aero-effect"
MS

does that wing thing actually do anything? Is downforce an issue at autox speeds? I wouldn;t have thought you'd have much lift at such speeds.
A:
That is the dumbest thing I've ever seen.
A:
Some of those cars in the link should be put on a boat and shipped straight to Japan. They love the big wing.
A:
Not to be argumentative, but I'm guessing that at nationals, every 10th of a second is huge... while the effect may be minimal, it may make the difference between winning and losing... so who cares if it looks "dumb" if it helps them win?
A:
I'll let you know after tomorrow...
A:
The weight and cog of this "wing" make it harm the cars dynamics.
Whoever did it must be a total muppet

You did the analysis? Or just eyeballing?
I'm sure Robert knows what he's doing.
A:
woah! so who's going to put on a even bigger wing?
