# of cars for sale. pointless post!

A&Q about Lotus

Q:
this post is kinda pointless but....

okay i've seen a few threads about ALL the cars for sale and how many cars are for sale.

looking at just ebay there are like 30? give or take at most times.

to put this into perspective considering there are maybe 2000 registered in the US. for 05 and 06. this is just over 1 percent of all the cars out there.

thats not too bad in my opinion. a 1% resale rate? sounds like a good thing to me. maybe a few at dealerships and private sales as well so lets figure 2%.

how many honda accords were produced for USA last year. like 100k so then is there 1000 of them used for sale??? i bet many more than that nation wide.
A:
I would think the total for the USA is more like 4,000

I think this might be a higher turnover car than a Honda. There are a few reasons that come to my mind. It's often a second car and if financial issues arise, it's an easier to dump your Lotus than your Honda and still keep your life together. It's also a specialized car and some people buy it and even if they love it, can't handle the special needs it has, so they sell. Others buy it because it's cool, then can't stand driving it for it's, let's say, "less than forgiving ride."

But that said, I agree, there don't seem to be all that many being sold that it's a panic type situation. I think sports cars, muscle cars, and boats do resell more than most cars. At one point many years ago a Mustang Boss was trading households in my extended family. Unfortunately it left the family one day and never returned.

I wonder what % of elises that are for sale are listed on ebay though? I wouldnt be surprised if a higher % of "for sale" elises are listed on ebay than "for sale" hondas, since there is a more limited appeal of the elise, making local sale more difficult than with a Honda.....
A:
A great number of the Elises for sale on Ebay are not really for sale. They are either dealers baiting people to their store by posting cars with no bid limits and a hidden reservces, or people trying to figure out how much their car is worth on the market, again by placing it on with a reserve.
A:
i'm with ivan i'd say higher % of elises on ebay than hondas or toyotas ...
