do you answer your cell phone in your Elise?

A&Q about Lotus

Q:
Shure makes a great headset ( www.shure.com) it is in ear with a rubber hook over the ear and a boom mic. Sound is excellent compared to all the others I've tried and callers can hear you clearly and you can hear them. They run about $40. Just my 2 cents.

I'm w/Transio. Lotoy & others: No point trying to use cell w/o headset.

For those w/bluetooth enabled phones, I bouth a nXZEN by Gennum. Designed to work in steel mills, it's got some DSP stuff that really helps.

But, I roll up windows and have a stock exhaust.

I generally don't answer it while driving (unless sitting nearly still in traffic or something like that). When convenient, I will take a quick look at who called, and if I want to call them back, I will pull over somewhere and call.

I don't bother with a headset because it is the distraction of talking and dialing that is the real danger, not the lack of use of one hand. This has been shown in numerous studies the last few years.

Hang up the damn phone and pay attention to driving!!!

Recently, my wife received a phone call at work from one of her employees. The person said their name, followed by "Oh S**T - I just got in a wreck!" - yep, the other person was on their cell phone. The even more ridiculous thing is, it's the second time she heard the wreck (both were the cell phone user rear-ending someone) after someone had called her...

I find that talking on a cell phone while driving is extremely distracting. I tried it after I got my new Razor with the bluetooth earset, and it is almost as distracting as holding the phone. Not sure why this is, but it is more distracting then having somone sit next to you and talk to you. However, even having someone sit next to me I find quite distracting; lucky for me I almost never have anyone in the car with me; helps the performance too!

So no, I don't answer the phone and don't use it in the car; I think it is worse than drinking and driving.

I put in a new sony head unit with bluetooth built in and can now hear just fine.

I never talk on the cell phone in my Elise!!! Ever!!!

There's no way I can drive well, talk on my phone, and work on my lap top! So bye-bye phone!

Scott, you still have the same humor as from the Porsche board.

OOps! Did I say something bad? I hope you don't get in trouble for being a prior Porsche owner.

btw, how is your Elise; did you get some of the kinks ironed out?

Yeah, a lot of people don't either get or like my silliness on the boards, but it keeps me entertained. Plus, what else am I gonna do while driving other than post on EliseTalk!

I think the kinks are ironed out. I haven't had a chance to drive it much in the last week, but plan on going for a drive today and getting out to a local concours event that is a combined Porsche and Rolls.
Thanks for asking! Pray for no more rain.

I can barely hear what the caller is saying. From now on I will ignore calls. Safer that way.

Ditto. I check it at stop lights and if there is anything that demands immediate attention, I pull into a parking lot and deal with it...but not while driving.
A:
Hmmm... I do use it a fair amount. I try and do it only in interstate traffic that is moving freely - but not always. Most of the time its no different than listening to the radio. But... if the call requires concentration (someone asking me hard business related questions) or the call is making me agitated I either say I will call back or I find a side road to pull over and continue the conversation.
A:
Don't bother, can't hear in the Elise.

+1

I check to see who called at a light, and if I feel like checking the message I'll just pull into a parking lot. I will never touch my phone, even with a hands free device, when the car is in motion.
A:
Nupe........usually too busy listening to the engine.
