RENT ME!

A&Q about Lotus

Q:
A few arrived. the Chili Red will spend most of her nights in my garage.
A:
Good call not getting a sport pack on the ST. Also, you may want to remove the hard tops and store them. People will want to go topless, and they will strip the hell out of the screws trying to remove it, and then have no place to keep it.

Good Luck!
A:
The hardtops will be removed and stored. I am still working on my addendums and playing with Chili. I will begin renting them on Monday. The Smarts that I just had delivered are bringing 89.99 all day long. I see the Lotus doing well. I already have a waiting list.
A:
Have your cleaning guys order and put REJEX all over the cars every three weeks. It'll help keep the dirt off...

and beyond all else...tell the people who rent your cars the following eight words:

BE CAREFUL! THIS IS NOT YOUR ORDINARY CAR!

(But you won't)
A:
And...

The windows will fog...alot....keep a nice towel under the front seat for the driver to use just in case.

A:
What city are you in??

I just came from my test drive and I think I need to rent one for a day to get a better feel. I loveeeeeeeeeee the car though.
A:
He's in Chicago.

I've never had my windows fog up, and I've driven it in various different weather and climates.
A:
Well, you are the exception. There are a billion posts about windows fogging on Elisetalk.
A:
Like these:

Trust me. What will happen is (and I have experienced this ALOT) is that the windows will suddenly fog up as you are driving and you won't see diddly.

They should carry a towel...but they won't.
A:
The ST has just left my office to its first customer. A good friend and someone who wants to buy.

Little bit of advice: You should get a more generic website name, like "chitowncar.com" or "chirents.com" or something that people will remember when they want to rent ANY car.
A:
That's awesome. Wish you guys were around when I was shopping for an Elise. It proved quite difficult to get test drives when the elise first came out.
A:
Other things to warn renters (and to look for when returned)

1. Watch downgrade entrances from parking lots to a road. If you exit fast, you will probably hit the front clam on the road.

2. Don't use the windshield to brace yourself into the car.

3. Narrow shoes for driver.

4. Watch downshifts and redline.

5. Concrete parking "bumpers" are clam killers.

6. As above, park a bit back in a space as the Elise is invisible when parked in a lot.
A:
pretty cool! If I lived in Chicago, I'd rent one for a day.
A:
Sweet!
Are they new? Are you having the Rev's kept down until the 600 mile mark or 1k service?

We've been through all this. I just hope that this "reporting on the rentals" will stop now.

It's nice that it's happening but some of us on Elisetalk don't want to be contantly reminded about two really nice Elises being reduced to rubble in a very short amount of time by people who have no idea how to drive them.

Congrats Ron! This is very cool!!!
A:
Well there is fogging up, and then there is gumming up of the windows. The gumming up comes from the new dyed/painted leather giving off fumes that tend to collect as white-ish residue on the inside windscreen and can get dangerously thick quickly while the car is new. Mine had this pretty bad for the first month and the only product I could find that got the gunk off was Stoner's Invisible Glass and newspaper ! I have the windows down or the top off a lot so the fumes went away pretty quickly, not an issue now.
A:
The point is, that at certain times the RENTER can't see out of the car window. The RENTER has no idea how to drive the car in the first place. The RENTER doesn't realize that if he blinks for but a moment in this car he will hit something.

I think that the RENTER will sign his papers and be sent merrily on his way without ANY warning about ANYTHING.

It's dangerous and foolish to RENT this car.
