RENT ME!

A&Q about Lotus

I think that the RENTER will sign his papers and be sent merrily on his way without ANY warning about ANYTHING.

It's dangerous and foolish to RENT this car. I agree. I'm not sure what you meant by your last post where you quoted my warnings, but I think we agree. I can't imagine having rented this car in the fashion most cars are rented. Here you go, the keys are in the car and this nice bus driver will drop you off by your car. Have fun!

Larry, do we really need to get into a pissing match again? I agree this is a great car but at the end of the day IT IS JUST A CAR.

A wise man once told me that you only marry one thing and its not your car.
A:
No. It's not.

That attitude is precisely why you shouldn't be renting it.

And why you shouldn't be on Elisetalk.

"A freaking dork?"

Why don't you go post on Mustang talk...you don't know anything about nice sports cars.

"A freaking dork?"

And you're stupid too.

Don't lose your temper now, we'll get a whole barrage of really dumb words from you.

Find somewhere else to publicize your rent a car business. Not here.

A wise man once told me that you only marry one thing and its not your car. The problem is it isn't "just a car" it's at times a very easy to total car. It's an easy to underestimate car, oops I'm going to fast in this turn, I better slow down. Hit the brakes and the rear end is swinging around to become the front of the car. Or Oh, there's a break in the traffic if I enter the road REAL FAST. {Crunch, Scrape, Crack} Humm, I wonder how bad that is?

That's all, nothing major, just a few things that a newbie to the car might encounter in their first day of racing around in a RENTAL car.

Sorry, not to be a jerk, but I can imagine these will cause some renters heartache.
A:
Larry, I am quite sure I have owned more "Nice Sports Cars" in the last month than you have owned in your pathetic little life. It is quite obvious that you have taken a material object and made it your life. Its sad.

We will never see eye to eye. You criticize what you dont know. Perhaps it would be best to agree not to step on each others threads.
A:
You are right RegGuy, but this is a company that rents cars and that's all this is really about. A guy using EliseTalk to publicize his car rental company.

These cars are very dangerous to the new user - but this car rental owner believes and was just quoted as saying "IT IS JUST A CAR."

I hope he will hear what we have been saying to him, but he won't.

Now I hope he will stop using Elisetalk to rent his cars.
A:
BTW we posted this info up over at JGTCA.com and NOTFWD.com (mainly Chicago-based clubs) as well. I'm sure we'll have a few folks with the means and interest to rent one of these beauties
A:
zen garage, as long as you continue to try to use a public forum to sell your wares I will be a monkey on your back.

You have underestimated the community on Elisetalk.

You don't care what kind of car you rent.

But we have very special feelings about this very special car.

And you don't.

It's that simple.

Let us know when those two really nice Lotus cars are destroyed.

I don't understand your deal. Its not your car bieng rented. If it is such a bad idea he will get what is coming to him in the form of a poor return on his investment. I realize that it will lower the perceved value of the car but since you love it so much you don't have to worry because you won't be selling. I don't mean any offence but I think that you are up on a little bit of a high horse when this really has not much to do with you. This is his business why not let him deal with it and if you don't like it then dont deal with it. If I am out of line tell me but I don't think that I am.
A:
Oh jeph. This is about a man who will not listen to how we feel no matter what.

I love this car.

2500 a year are built.

And to see them broken all over town so he can make a buck?

You know what, fine. He can rent them.

But how about him not using Elisetalk, a forum about this wonderful car, for such a greedy, singular purpose?
A:

I'd be interested to see the profiles of an Elise renter. I have a feel it may not be the guy who upgraded from the Focus to the Mustang. It's probably going to be someone who as a sports car (like an STi or Corvette) and is interested in buying an Elise and wants to see what they're like. To a lesser extend, you'd probably have some people who want to rent it for a wedding, prom or some other special event but the constraints of the car would probably weed a large group of that out. But I'd like to find out the types of renter and what their plans are (if they tell you).
A:
Larry, get off your high horse and take a pill. Stop being such an idiot. The Elise is a nice power to weight ratio car but by no means and exceptionally difficult car to drive. If people want to enjoy them by renting them, god bless them. I know I am a roadrace instructor, now if you were talking about a Viper I'd say be careful.

So stop your narrow mindedness and stop acting like a putz

Sorry I was surfing and saw your pathetic posts and had to reply, love the car, great on tight tracks, fun to drive.
A:
There's an Exotic car rental place in downtown Vegas. They rent Ferrari's and Porsche and Lambo etc. I saw a bunch of guys heading out one day. I wonder how the rental company makes out?
A:
I am not an idiot. You don't know me so watch your mouth.

I'm not wrong about this and I care about these cars.

I am not narrow-minded.

A putz? Maybe.

I hate seeing these cars trashed.

I went over to a rental place in Beverly Hills recently and checkout two of these cars that were (mind you, were) rentals.

They were insanely beaten up.

Look, if I'm being harsh, and you don't like it, that's your problem.

A putz?

Wow.

Big word.

Oh! That sounds like Rent-A-Vette! They have a Phoenix office too. I came really close to renting a Viper when I was considering buying one back in 2001. Also, I think Budget of Beverly Hills also rents exotics.

I don't see zen garage as promoting his business. He's in Chicago so that doesn't really influence me. People on Elisetalk in Chicago probably already have an Elise so that would reduce that group too.

I'm not in favor of Lotus' plan to uses Elise as rental cars but since Lotus has decide to do this renter program, I'm glad we can get status reports from zen garage.
A:
Well you do read the stories of Brittany Spears running a rental Ferrari off the road in Malibu and such..... I personally would not feel very morally right sending somebody off to drive a mountain road in my Elise without giving them at least a 30 minute lesson on how to not kill themselves by braking in a corner or oversteering. Zen are you liable in Illinois for not informing somebody of potentially dangerous or deadly issues? Kind of like if you rented somebody a wood chipper and gave them no manual or instruction on proper usage?
