Grind Noise in 3RD.

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

I have heard that the synchro on 3rd is the problem. I believe there is a bulletin out for that. Do a search?

A:

As long as the car is under 36 months and 36,000 miles the dealer should honor it. Most likely a bent syncro or worn 3rd gear.

36 months would be from the time the car was first put into service.

I got two trannies replaced because of the infamous 3rd gear grind. One at 10,000 mi. and the second at 20,000 mi. I now have 41,000 mi and so far so good. (knock on wood) Take it in and have it replace. The dealership knows about this problem.

Good Luck

I had to take mine in on a cold morning and engage 1st 2nd & 3rd several times while parked in order to simulate the grind. Press the clutch, engage disengage 1st depress clutch. Press the clutch engaged 2nd disengage 2nd depress clutch. Press the clutch, engage """"Grind""""

Ok will replace it!!!!!! the mechanic said.

Hopefully you won't have as much trouble as I did. It is hard to get it to grind when it only does it when the mechanic is not around.

I have an 03 and I had mine replaced too. The input shaft was making noise but third gear was doing the grind thing too. The new transmission works great.

A:

the dealer will take care of the grind. had mine replaced after 4k miles.

A:

Well I spoke to the dealer and they weren't aware of the issue. I guess Nissan hasn't issued a bulletin yet. I did make an appointment for tomorrow to drop it off all day, so we will see what they say.

I wasn't experiencing third gear grinds until I had Nissan install my third clutch kit. This round I went with all NISMO parts--including the flywheel. Any chance there's an adjustment that could be made? Could it be related to the clutch not fully disengaging? The release point is VERY early.
