A&Q about 350Z
Q:
I just purchased my Z this past summer and haven't had any problems till the winter came in. I'm interested to know if anybody else has had problems with the shocks on thier hatchback. Seems like everytime it gets a little cold out my hatchback won't stay open and funny thing is it has hit my roomate in the head a couple of times. I need to know if this is a problem with all Z's or just mine
Any comments are welcomed.

hey - i work at a dealer and in the past couple months we've had a few in the shop for the same problem - should run you about 100/ea for the shocks. i'm not sure if it's just a combo of the weight of the hatch and the cold.
A:
it's the hyrdralic (sp?) fluid in the shocks. once it get's cold the fulid get stiff and just doesn't work as well, you'll find the same thing on almost any car with similar shocks.
however being a newer car shouldn't be that big of an issue, but i assume the hatch is fairly heavy.

I have the same problem. The cold does change the pressure in the hatch shocks but they should still hold up hatch.Had same problem on my honda and a new set worked fine in winter also.Should be covered under the 3 year warranty.Goin to give it a try taking it in to dealer.

Funny you guys have this problem but none of the 70-96 guys really do. I wonder if it's the shocks they are now using rather than the cold. It doesn't matter if it's 30 degrees out my 77 and 84 hatch holds strong and they are old struts (8+ years). I would maybe try an aftermarket strut.

I am having the same problem when it gets cold, and I live in AZ! I do have an aftermarket spoiler so I hesitate to take it to the dealer to complain (they will blame the spoiler). I have looked a bit online for a heftier replacement support, but haven't found one.
Anyone seen a set online? If so, where? Thanks
