As long as you dont bend or damage the washer in any way you should be able to make it last for several years..I think it is stated in the manual so you will bring it into a nissan dealership to have the oil change. Just a marketing ploy...

Yes. If you want to make absolutely sure it won't leak. They only cost like 50 cents and you can buy them a the dealer... mine gives me one with each filter.
