Got mine set at 3500 to help remind me not to speed on the highways. Got a speeding ticket just after Thanksgiving and I don't want to get any more. So far, its working.

makes the shift light blink near the rpm you want it to then come on steady at the rpm you want it to.

basically its the same thing as the BIG ASS tachs some people stick on their dash because the don't know how to listen to the engine to know when to shift.
The light is a shift light... used to signal the point at which your car hits just past it's peak torque on the decline... so that you could switch to the next gear and be at a stong torque area for your acceleration... thus shortening your lap time/quarter time/ whatever you are doing... this light was made so that it would grab your attention so you would know to shift without looking at the tach. (KEEPING YOUR EYES ON THE ROAD)...
you can set it by switching you TRIP COMPUTER (using the two buttons on the right side of the TACH/SPEEDO/UTILITY cluster) they are two silver buttons... push the top one until you come across a read out on the dash cluster displaying (usually) 4 numbers... then push the bottom button until you get the desired RPM READOUT... it cycles UP until it reaches the RPM LIMITER then it starts over at the bottom... (2100) i think... it's funny i found everything i know out before i even cracked my User Manual open...

The curves meet at around 5600, so I set my light there. Torque has started to drop off by that point.
