Water in the Z

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

Is it just me or do others also get water pooling on the door sills after a rain storm?

Water on the doors sills just from washing it, as well as the rain. AND, the window well stays wet forever too. Makes me wonder if its going to rust and if that is what causes so many window motor problems on the 350.

It is a little disconcerting!

Nope not mine. I do use silicon spray on all the seals every 6 months.

Very strange - the same thing happened to me a week ago. Took a 2 hour road trip with my wife to visit her father down state. It was raining. A couple days later, I noticed a musty smell in the cabin. I reached down and felt the passenger side floor mat and it was soaking wet. I asked her if she might have spilled something, but she said "no". She didn't have any drinks with her during the road trip. It is definitely not the heater core - just plain water. The heater still works fine and there was no maple-syrup odor that you get when your heater core craps out. I have no idea where it came from. I'm going to keep a close eye on it next time I drive in the rain to see if it comes back. If so, then we've got a problem for sure.

I'll take J Mel's suggestion and have the dealer check out the A/C drain plug next time I am in the shop for an oil change.

I think I'm going to have to check where my A/C drain plug is. Why would they have it drain into the passenger side floor? If they have done that, I'm going to reroute it. My 300zx drain is in front of the firewall and when it malfunctions, it drains to the frame. I had to reroute that so the frame wouldn't rust anymore. So, it isn't too hard, just a fitting and a drill and a hose to the outside. Then a little silicone to seal up around the hose. We shouldn't have to redesign Nissan's cars for them. Sometimes I wonder about the thinking Nissan has on some of this stuff.

Preventitive thinking ..... not.
