I would love to sell you a z, your right they did have that problem on the 2003-2004, but they have corrected this years models. I thought the same thing when i bought my z last year, i have a 2004 and i have no problems. You really picked the right time to be in the market because i need to blow them out. But i understand where your coming from when you spend $30,000 you want no problems and i agree and you wont on the 2005. Email me back.Thank you.
What can I do to get a guarantee from them that this won’t happen to the Z I’m getting?

What the dealer tells you has no value. They will say anything to sell cars, its how they make money. Its very very unlikely that they will give you something in writing.
If you magically can make them give it to you in writing on the dealership's letterhead, pay a an authorized notary officer to go with you and ensure its stamped and notarized.
Then again, you'd have to be half a lawyer to make sure you frame that written agreement to your advantage :)
At any rate, now that the dealer has admitted the problem, you can bargain down the price like crazy, all the best!
