I find that the older Z guys driving the 350z usually know about past gens....Its like they are always the ones waving at me in my 300.....The younger people are usually just driving it b/c its whats hot.....

yeah i was and still aware of that fact. there are many 350's in my town and i always give a friendly wave and everytime i get the same response-a weird look and then kinda of a hand lift off the steering wheel.
heres a conversation i had with a guy who had a 350 roadster one night at our local sonic
me-dude nice car
350-yeah you too
a few minutes later
350-exactly what kind of car is that, i have never seen one
me- (in a ozzzed look) well sir, this is a nissan 300zx convert.
350- no way, i didnt know there was a prior z
me- yeah actually nissan started making z's in like 72
350-really, hmmm i didnt know that
me-let me guess, you were always into american mucsle and never thought about foreign cars
350-well ive always admired the toyo supra
me-i mean no offense, but how did you not know about the z cars, i mean havent you ever heard of the twinturbo 300zx
350-well ive heard of a twinturbo 3000gt, are they similar
me-no they are not
350-thats interesting, well hows the performance of the 300
me-well if i were a tt and i put on 3 things, i could smoke you pretty good
350-theres no way, ive beaten so many cars-yadda yadda
me-trust me i would take you
350-well you wanna find out
me-when
350-right now
350 wife/gf-baby your not going to race my car, in fact i kinda want go home
me-well man, i guess you better hit me up some other time when you get a car
350-yeah we'll see about that
he pulled out and tried to do a burnout but failed horribly.
i tried to be nice to the guy, but he really erked me the wrong way and i lost respect for him even if he was driving a z.
as for any other 350z i will still wave and if they dont relize im in a z too, oh well at least i know.

330Zs?
My dealer made me take a general knowledge exam before he let me order my car. I didn't pass, so I had to pay an extra $2500. It was worth it to me.
I've since learned there were other cars called Datsuns years ago. Imagine that. Datsuns. Has anyone else heard about these models?
Your assumptions are plain stupid, kid.

Any new fancy looking sportscar is going to have people that buy them because they like them without knowing their history, if there is one. Nothing wrong with that. I think the difference is when buying used you end up studying various years and generations of a car whereas when looking a new car you have no reason to do so.

I traded in my '77 280 for my 350Z. Both are great cars for different reasons - same with the 300's. The 350Z is just the latest chapter in a long-running story. Never forget where you came from....

Well since people are telling their purchase stories... i guess i'll chime in...
before i owned a car (when i was looking for my first) i looked at several cars, the only two i wanted at the time was a Prelude or a 95-96 300Zx...
I didn't know at the time exactly what the car was i just thought it was a really cool looking car... so i began looking for it in autotrader and such and found out that it was in fact a Z... not that i knew what THAT was...
so i turned to my nifty internet search and began looking at the z and eventually ran across some of it's history... and liked what i read but also knew that a price like that i couldn't afford (because i was still in high school) so i decided to persue a prelude and then later found out that insurance would kill me too...
so i just went walking around in a car lot and ran across a car that i just got a glimpse of and was like "that'll work..." i really had no idea as to what i just wanted... but later found out that it was a 2000 civic... this was in 2002...
in 2004 i was really frustrated driving a civic... it wasn't very quick, it leaned quite a bit in the turns and felt too much like what it was made for... an economy car... not to mention my sister had just bought a 2000 GT mustang... didn't bother me too much except that she knew how to operate it... but not DRIVE it... (you should know what i mean...)
so i looked into a Z again and found the 350Z which i instantly loved... i searched every option and color and blah blah, blah... and knew that i wanted a Super Black with leather interior... well...long story aside i got a Chrome silver which at first was lead to believe that it was a 2004 model and left to work for all the paper work to be signed... my dad financed it for me... and found out i was sold a 2003... touring... not bad i guess it's still a Z and it had everything i was looking for... so hey i can get used to silver... and now i love it... and am still looking for a Z32 cause i freaking love those too...

When I was about 8 years old I was walking down the street in Telluride Colorado and I saw this awesome car just sitting there on a corner. I asked my dad what it was and he told me it was a 280Z. I just remember being totally amazed by it... it was the first time in my life that any particular car just stood out and said something to me.
Years later when I was looking into a car to get when I turned 16, I found a nice 260Z. I REALLY wanted to get it, but my parents wouldn't let me at the time because they said I needed something reliable and newer. They were going to pay for half of the car so I couldn't really argue that much. So I ended up with a 1997 Nissan Altima. Not a bad car at all, just not quite what I wanted.
Well the Altima didn't last too long... it got T-Boned when some moron ran a red light and hit me while I was making a left turn. So again, I looked around for a bit, looked at some Zs.. I found a 1983 280ZXT that I about fell in love with but it was just a bit outside of my price range at the time. So this time I ended up with a '92 4.0L Jeep Cherokee, purchased it for $3000 in perfect condition. I drove the Jeep for like 4 years.
Just before my 21st birthday I saw a z31 300zx. Somehow, the existence of a 300ZX before the Z32 had kept itself hidden from me until that day. When I saw it in a parking lot parked right next to my Jeep, I just stopped and drooled on it for a few minutes. So I went home, jumped online and looked up z31s on autotrader. I found one nearby, went and looked at it. It was an immaculate 1985 300ZX n/a, and I purchased it the very next day as my 21st birthday present to myself.
To this day it has sucked away every penny I had, but I still love it.

You aren't going to believe this!
I was in Telluride Colorado in the mid/late 90's and saw the first 300zx z32 I actually noticed. I went into that hotel, I can't recall its name, started with an S [maybe Sheridan?] and is quite famous off the main street on the left side if you are entering town. I went in and used the net on a guest computer they had [when they first started putting internet in public businesses] and found this very forum. After reading about 'twin turbo', I knew 100% that car would be mine.

Damn! Thats just freaking crazy! But what a cool coincidence.
I haven't been to Telluride in a few years cause its gotten so damn expensive to buy lift tickets, but I'm seriously thinking about making a road trip out in the early spring if they ever get any snow this year. I feel it would kinda be fitting to make a road trip in my Z to the place that originally sparked my interest in the Z cars.
And that hotel is the Sheridan btw..

Yup... I am sorry... but I drive 5 miles to and from work in the Houston Medical center.... and.. just today.. I passed 4 or 5 350zs AND NO ONE gave me a smile or a wave back....
Now, 2 things.. either one, they are just snobs.... 2 don't like the orange colour of the car which represents the Texas Longhorns....
of which I could not give a rat-ass about cause I'm Canadian....
So... no Z friends of mine in Houston.
