4-5k i would say....i dont know if theres anything on the JWT website but that should be pretty good. Technically though you should just look at it and if its getting kinda grey in color you should probably clean it. you can either order the JWT recharge oil($15) or you can go to your local autoparts store and buy a K&N filter cleaner kit($10). The only difference is that with the K&N the filter will be kind of a pinkish red color where as the JWT oil is blue. I just got the K&N though cause i didnt feel like paying $15 plus shipping. Theres really no difference though.

I don't know if this helps but, this is from the K&N FAQ:

"How do I know when to clean the filter?

The general rule of thumb is that the filter needs to be cleaned when the dirt build up gets as thick as the wire mesh. The usual interval is 30,000 - 50,000 miles depending on driving conditions. We recommend that you check your filter about once a year in normal usage."

I was also told is the past that a little dirt help the air flow because of design.

Personally, I have been cleaning my K & N and Popcharger about every 15-20K. Seems about right to me. The exception to this rule is if I have taken a trip to desert or beach setting I will open up the filter box clean out the sand, bang out sand or dirt out of the filter. If it is a lot I go ahead and clean the Filter.

I run K&N or Pop Charger(reuseable filters) on all of my vehicles. From Motorcycle to Motorhome. They have saved me a lot of $ over the years.
Generally, it is the first thing I do to my car.

Presently K & N using in:

'67 Camaro 454
'99 Sable 3.0 V6
'01 Pathfinder 3.5 V6
'98 Firebird with Corvette K & N filter
'87 Holiday Rambler Motorhome
'84 300zx turbo

'04 350Z (Pop Charger)

This is just my opinion .... IMHO ;)

now that i think about it i believe JWT says to check it every 3 months...the regular K&N drop in filters arent the same as the JWT. Your best bet is just to look at it visually. If its getting pretty grey in color you should probably clean/re-oil it

Visual checks to see if you see light through it work sometimes. If I don't, time to clean and reoil. Can be subjective. In reality, I probably checking mine more lately, on the sport and performance cars every 5K and on my trucks every 10K. But they haven't needed to be cleaned just lightly brushed to get out the twigs, small leave pieces and grit. Pop charger won't tend to hold the leaves, twigs and stuff because of the design. The filter I have seem to be flowing really good on up to 20K that is where I free I will get some benefit from cleaning/reoiling it.

Now you guys are making me want to check them all again ....

It's a easy thing to do. Like 60 secs or less.

Don't forget the paper gets stained over the years so the grey color is not always a indicator. At first, it is good indicator. When you still getting 100-200K on these filters there really isn't too much of the pink/blue color left.
You simply can't get the grey out. Wonder how much bleach would break it down? Not something that is important to me..... the pink/blue color that is ....

I'll have say it is easier at first to see if the K & N is dirty or not. That blue is a little harder to see what is going on.

You want to make sure your seals are good and you use sealing grease on your box type filters .... couldn't hurt on the tube type either.
