I've got the stock single CD player in my 03 Track....
I'l like to upgrate the back speakers... Any suggestions?
I am biased to Boston Acoustics...
How many speakers are total in the Z.... 6?

I just put in a system in my wife's car. The front speakers are MB Quart PCE216's and the backs are Polk MMC6500's. I installed an Infinity Basslink (self powered 200W class D amp) as the sub and a Rockford Fosgate Power 800/4 drives the other 4. Everything sounds great. I don't think you can beat the MB Quarts for pure sound.

The Z33 has 6.5 components in front and 6.75 rears. 6 total. I have Infinity Kappa Perfects. I am thinking of going to BA though.
I have a 10" sub behind the drivers seat; however, I also have a custom fiberglass enclosure. Doesn't sound as tight as MDF but space was a huge factor in my install.

OK, I was gonna keep quiet on this one, but I've had another crappy day and need to vent, so here goes:
Why are rear speakers the first thing people think of upgrading? It should ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS (well, most of the time :) be the head unit that gets upgraded first.
If you are talking about things to rip out and throw away, then yup rear speakers should be on the top of the list.
How often do you go to a concert, and face AWAY from the stage???
Going in to buy rear speakers for an otherwise stock system is like wearing a t-shirt saying "I'm a newbie, please take my money".
Next you'll tell me that a 2nd battery makes the stereo louder or stops your headlights from dimming... :)

Aramis, you are right on target. I replaced my stock head unit first with new Pioneer 7600, and the overall sound improvement was enough for me. By the way, this unit has several cool features, one of which will auto the volume up and down according to inside cabin noise.

In my opinion, I actually like and wanted the stock single CD player in my 03 Track Z then the 6 CD changer in the 03 touring Zs which I test drove.
SO. Since I have to fly low under the radar for awhile but wanna add my own touches to my Z...... all I really need to add is a good equalizer just to shape the sound a little better... it's just a little tinny to my ear...

staticivi03, I understand exactly what you mean (rears are closest to your ears), but think about it this way instead: the rear speakers (in addition to completely screwing up the soundstage and proper imaging), present the BIGGEST signal path length differences.
In other words, the front speakers (again, proper imaging aside), are not equal lengths from your ears, but since they are farther away the DIFFERENCES in their signal path lengths are less pronounced.
For example, let's say the left front speaker is 32" from your left ear, and the right front speaker is 44" from your right ear. (I'm just guessing on the numbers). That's a signal path difference of 38%.
Now, let's say the left rear speaker is 8" from your left ear, and the right rear speaker is 22" from your right ear. (Again, I'm just guessing on the numbers). That's a signal path difference of 175%!!!. The time delays, phase shift & subsequent cancellation are going to be very significant.
Again, this is all aside from the fact the ANY rear speakers COMPLETELY screw up proper imaging, unless of course you want to get into fancy time delay generators, phase compensators, etc.
Hope that makes sense...and I'm not sure if you meant Eclipse AVX 2494 (I can't find and don't remember an AVX 2495), but if it is the AVX 2494, don't forget that unit has NO pre-amp outputs (RCAs) whatsoever IIRC. You'll have to use the speaker outputs of the Eclipse into your Kicker KX1200.1!!!

mmm... interesting... aramis... i think there was an update model... the 2495 but i'm probably wrong... i completly understand what your saying... that's why my factory Bose HU is set to Right Front channel +1 and Front channel +1 so that the velosity of the right and FR speakers are getting a little more amp so that they are a bit louder than the one's closer to my ears creating that sweet spot. you have to do the same thing for aftermarket speakers or you will get that overpowering effect. that's my reasoning behind the crossover. i asked a dude at cartoys and he was like no you don't need one b/c they are built into HU and amps. but the HU's very rarely have "screw type" adjustments for that FINE tune you can get with a seperate unit.....so for a lousy 50-60 bucks its worth it.
I didn't know the eclipse AVX 2494 has no preamp outs... that sucks... why would i spend $1200 on that if it comes with no preamp?
ugh... i must rethink my life... *sigh*...
