Cruise Control

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

I know Nissan has told us you cant put a factory cruise control (or nav) on a car that did not come with it. They have been known to lie to us.
My question is has anyone actually looked behind the the silver plate on the right hand side of the steering wheel? What about the nav plugs?
It seems odd that nissan would spend millions of dollars during assembly to make the non cruise model have a different wire harness? I think it is a marketing tool......think about it.....most people want cruise on their cars , hell you can get it on any car now a dazes. Nissan wants to advertise the 350z at the low low price of 27,000.00. it's important for it to be considered "affordable". Then when your average buyer wants one they say, "f#ck that , i want cruise", they end up paying 2 grand more for the step up from the base. Think about it the cruise control is electronic and the only hardware is a switch on the steering wheel, 50 bucks? And the marketing people have orders to tell anyone and everyone that the cruise and nav cannot be retrofitted. When the light hits my dash just right i can see the cruise portion , it there and just waitin???
I took out the screw but can't seem to get the plate off, anyone out there done it?

Get hold of a factory manual. It should show the wiring diagram for all the electronic works. Then you would have to trace it all down. Probably it is not there. My guess is that there would have to be a seperate system for cruise and it has probably been left off. The openings are there but the wiring is not. Just a guess. I am an electronics eng. ,but that dont mean s--t when it comes to japanese logic.

remember the throttle is fly by wire. cruise would only need a switch / on/off resume and cancel on the steering wheel , then small "not very significant" wires to the ecm....just wondering

my best guess is find a wreaked 350 in a salvage yard and test your theories on it... No worries of screwing up your car... if it is a control module snatch it if you can and tell the junk yard people that you just wanted some wire crap and that it is just a fuse... maybe it'll work and you'll get a cheap cruise control module... and some working knowledge on how to disassemble your 350.
