question for jjgdyr

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

I have an 04 Z with 6000 miles on it and was really considering getting the f1-gs-d3's you recommended, but I have a dilemmna, or a question for you. I have noticed that my car is starting to make a roar sound now at about 20-30. I guess this is the first sign of problems to come. Should I get a new set of goodyear tires if there is no proof that a new tire will solve the tire problems we Z owners are having? I know you either own or work in a tire store and I value your opinion.

Also could you tell me if you are having any problems with your tires. I would like to also know what alignment specs. are the right ones for the Z. If I get the new tires I will get the tire size you recommended for the 17" rims. I hear they made new specs for the alignment and was hoping that plus new tires would help.

thanks........................

I am not jjgdyr, however I do have Good Year Eagle F1-GS-D3's all the way around.

I currently have 6k miles on them and have slight rumble from my front tires. I think I am super aware of feathering owning a 12/02 build Z with 26k miles on it,

Front sets of tires = 4
Rear set of tires = 2

Still love this car and enjoy it as much as the first time I drove it!

zpoe,

Do you feel it's worth the money for the eagles knowing that there isn't a cure for the problem? Are your tires starting to feather? Seems like a lot of money to get only maybe 6000 miles before the roar comes back. I guess I am trying to get a concensus if it's worth the investment or not.

Anyways I love the Z car so far, I guess I am lucky, because I don't have anything wrong with my Z except the beginning of a tire roar.

i have over 10k on my tires and they are wearing great

it's important to make sure the alignment is set to .08 on the frt toe
.04 on each side
that's what nissan recommends
keeps the frt air pressure at 35-37psi. when cold

keep rears at 35psi cold.

underinflation will cause inside shoulder wear too.

frt tire size should be 245/45/17
rear tire size 255/45/17
that's if u want to run the bigger tires.

another good choice is the goodyear eagle rs-a's in the factory sizes.

i also have a new recommendation, have the frt tires rebalanced every 3000 miles.

jjgdyr,

What is this I read about bubbles on the sidewalls of the f1gsd3's? They also mention about a soft sidewall? If you inflate the tire properly will that help on the bubbles and the soft sidewall problem? Also the thread from zooom has different spec's for the alignment than you recommend. Do we have a true reading on what the real alignment is suppose to be?

Mine are inflated to 37 psi front and back. My alignment was performed by an independent shop that aligns Porches, BMWs, Mercedes and other sports cars. It was aligned better than the three Nissan dealers previously!

My Eagles are feathering at 6K. I will wait until I cannot stand ithe roar and have them cross rotated, by removing them from the front rims and remounting them side to side.

Most of the people who say they do not have this problem, really do!

STOP. LOOK and LISTEN with your stereo OFF!

Here's the deal guys: Nitto Extreme 555's. 245/40/18 - 275/40/18 on stock wheels, and after 15k miles, there's not one sign of feathering on the inside treads up front, smoother than a baby's ass. I didn't even have the car realigned when i purchased them, and haven't had any of the wheels rebalanced. Tread compound 300, different tread block than the stock Shitenzas, and for $800 installed - you can't beat these Nittos. Ohh, and cheaper than the Goodyear's. I've got pics(tread wear) if interested.
