Fuel cutoff at 4000 rpm

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

I have a new 06 Enthusiast (I bought it exactly 30 days ago). Yesterday, something bizarre happened. I got up to 4000 rpm in 1st and the fuel cut off. I shifted to 2nd, same thing. Shifted up to 3rd, the fuel cuts off again around 4000 rpm. I wasn't accelerating hard or anything. In fact, when I was in 1st, I was turning right leaving a parking lot. Just normal, everyday acceleration. This has never happened before, and hasn't happened again since yesterday. In fact, after this happened, I pulled into a parking lot, turned the engine off, then back on, and it stopped. It was as if I 'rebooted' the engine or something. Has anyone else ever experienced this? I checked for recalls and TSBs, and there are none for the 06 model (according to edmunds.com).

if you have aftermarket wheels with a size different than OEM or low profile tires it could be messing with the traction control.

No this isn't a traction control problem, this is a fuel injection problem.

I'd bet that one of your important engine sensors is failing or has a loose connection. I would open the hood and physically check the connections between all sensors and their wire harness for good connection.

Things to check first would be Air Flow Meter, Fuel Pressure regulator / fuel temperature sensor, Engine/coolant temperature sensor, and throttle position sensor.

Was any work done to the vehicle recently?

i still think it's the wheels and tires. traction control will cut power and when your tires aren't stock it may completely cut power for no apparent reason.

well the easy way to see if thats the problem is to disable the stupid TCS and see if it still happens.

like he said it doesn't happen often, so it's hard to test like that.

i had the same problem when i had 19" wheels and low profile tires on mine. it was rarely a problem, but one time in particular i was just driving down the road cruising when all of a sudden the power just cut out. had to let off the gas for a good 5 seconds or so before it was back to normal.

AEM cold air intake...hmmm. I would make sure your maf sensor is aligned properly and functioning like it is supposed to.

Exact symptoms of hitting the rev limiter at its normal 6700 RPM. I think the ECU or something just "hicupped" or got confused. Would be tough thing for the dealer to "replicate" so if doesn't happen again, don't think you should worry too much. Of course thats easy for me to say - its not my car.

A:

Ok, when the engine hits the rev limiter, yes it cuts fuel and exactly what was descibed originally will happen. But, the rev limiter will only kick in at a certain RPM. You can look at your tack, if its cutting fuel at 4,000, its not due to a rev limiter. It HAS to be do to another sensor sending false information (or cutting out from a bad connection).

TCS is not the problem. TCS works by systematically applying a small amount of brakes to wheels that are likely to slip, based on information pre-programmed into the ECU.

I don't know why you people don't permanently disable that stupid TCS system anyways. That is a bunch of crap designed only because most of the people on the road can't be trusted to drive their cars properly.

If it's the TCS, you should have light begin to flash on your speedometer. I have 19s and I have gotten used to disabling it everytime I turn on the car. It's a pain at first but you start to do it automatically just like putting on your seatbelt. Hope this helps.

I have the same wheel and tire sizes, and have never had a problem with vdc indicating slip and cutting throttle under "normal" driving. So my $0.02 is that it is not the VDC system.
