Wheel Size Change Speedo?

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

Does changing the wheel size affect the accuracy of the speedometer?

I am looking at Axis Hiro 19" rims (8.5 fr 9.5 r) with 245/35 front and 275/35 rear tires.

Will I have to get some kind of adjustment to the speedometer if I install this package?

Just for the record and I am embarassed to say this...the reason I am moving up my wheel purchase is because I just rubbed by right front wheel on a curb while backing out of a parking space. Gouged the hell out of about half of the rim edge.

P.S. I have only had the car for 2 1/2 weeks with 600 miles. I was, and still am pissed!

If you go to tires.com under "info center" then "reading tire size made easy", you'll find that you can type in your original tire size then your upgrade tire size and it will calculate the difference between the two in height, width, etc... & ofcourse change in speedometer reading which won't be much I believe.

Hope this helps

I feel your pain because I've been there and done that twice on the same night. I only had my Z for about a month and one night I went out. Well, as I was pulling in to a parking spot, I scratched my right front rim on the curb. SON OF BIOCH!! MUTHA #@$%&!!!! And then later that night, I scratched my left front rim on a curb while going through a drive through. GREAT!!!! THIS IS GREAAAT!! Twice in one night?!!! What are the chances?
I didn't want that third strike to happen so I got home as soon as I could and, luckly, nothing happened.
I just put in an order for the NISMO rims and new tires.
I can't wait to have them installed.
I'll have to be even more careful with these rims.

As far as your speedo, I think it may be off just a little bit, but I could be wrong.

Depends on the height of your stock tires versus your new ones as well. If you get proportionally 'lower profile' tires vs stock the difference will be negligable.

Gotagetmyz-

Thanks, that is a great link. The wierd thing is that the size change for the front tires makes the speedo reading slower, the change in the rear makes the speedo faster. Neither changes the reading much, less than half a mph in either direction.

If you stay with 245/35/19 F and 275/35/19 rear you should be so close to original tire circum. you will not notice the speed difference.May be off by like .1%. BEN

There will be almost no difference unless you do something radical like 13 or 20 + inch wheels. And if you do go radical, speedo error will be the least of your problems.
