Synthetic Oil

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

Does anyone know definitively if synthetic oil vs mineral based oil really makes that much difference. I have 19,000 miles on my 2003 350Z, it is too late to make the switch?

I changed the spark plugs on my 91 Stealth (wih 290 thousand miles) last weekend and they were all a perfectly clean, 'potato brown'. I've used Mobil 1 (fully synthetic) since it's breakin and the untouched engine still runs like new.
I just turned 36 thousand miles on my '03 Z, also using Mobil 1 since breakin and let me tell you, it RIPS! Everyone has their own opinion, but I'm convinced there's no comparison to Mobil 1.
And Zymol cleaner/wax bi-monthly has kept the clear coated silver paint on both cars looking like new too.
These cars ROCK!

if youre going to keep the car past the warranty, use the best oil.
if your're a lease or someone who gets a new one every year or so , use dino oil..

Synthetic is good. Just remember to drain the synthetic and put in a fresh filter at the specified change intervals. You don't have to be "sterile" when you drain and pour the lubricant back in, but you DO have to be "sanitary." If cost is not a consideration, you can just put in new synthetic every 3,000-5,000 miles, along with a fresh filter. Cost prohibitive for most of us, even if we plan on keeping our Zees for more than 10 years.

Zeero,

Do I understand that you re-use the syn oil?

that's what i'm thinking too.... WTF??? i've heard of taking dirty Gas powered oil and using it in say a tractor (Kenworth) but never back in the same vehicle.... i ALWAYS get new Mobil 1 synthetic... 5w-30

Mobil 1 is what I have used the whole time after break-in period. I change my oil every 6000 miles and my oil filter every 3000 miles. When I change my oil filter at 3000 miles, I loose less than 1/2 quart of oil which I replace when the job is done because I don't drain the oil.

I do this for cost reason and the fact that Mobil 1 does not need to be changed every 3000 miles. But everyone has their own opinion.

What about the 10K Mobil Syn stuff just out?

Or the 7.5K Mobil Blend oil?

I run Redline oil right now and plan on switching to the 10K Mobil Syn stuff and changing it every 7.5K just to make sure there is no breakdown of the oil and to keep my motor as clean as possible.

Any one know about these?

I run Redline and change the oil and WIX filter every 3000 miles. I like redline because they make an entire line of synthetic lubes, for the motor, the trnansmissions, and differential (gear oil). I run all 3 in the Z and it is sooo much smoother.
