A&Q about 350Z
Q:
I have the stock stereo (not Bose). I want to install a subwoofer in the space behind the driver's seat.
Two questions:
Will the stock stereo support the additional speaker?
Is there any chance the woofer area is prewired from the factory?
Appreciate your help.

the stock...will support it. However the bose subwoofer is a free air sub and if you get something else...which you probably will...it will not be a free air sub. so you need to get a sealed enclosure. I just had one put in the back. I'll get something more custom later. First performance than bling...lol
I had an mtx 10" sub and mtx amp. It hits nice and is loud with the stock radio. I would recomend any alpine head unit. They are really powerful.

ummm...the stock head unit will not properly support a subwoofer. What are you going to wire it to...one of the rear speaker outputs? From the stock head unit I'd be suprised if you even 10W of dirty power out of it...definitely not enough to control a cone that big.
Any subwoofer worth installing will require at LEAST 100W RMS clean power, driven by a proper head unit using good pre-amp outputs. Power can go wy up from there, depending on the size of your wallet, motor quality, enclosure design, damping ratio, yadda yadda yadda...and don't forget about a proper crossover too. I've done triple Eclipse aluminum 10's, each getting 350w RMS before. That was neat... :)
Alpine's are also sold because of their reputation moreso than actual quality. I'd make a friendly recommedation that you take a listen to something like a decent Eclipse 8V-preout model when it comes time to upgrade....

i still recommend the Eclipse AVX 2494... if you can... it's in stores (cartoys etc.) at about $2000+ but you can find them on Ebay for about 1200-1500... GPS navigation, touch screen, Built in HD, 7.5" screen, DVD/MP3/CD. reciever is Double Din size (same as our stock models) and records music directly from CDs as you play them or from the radio while you listen. HD can hold approx. 3000 songs... also it displays Titles of tracks and Artist copied from the CD. so you don't spend hours typing in the names of songs... Great buy IMO.

Well, I don't think you know either

static, there's a few misleading things in your post:
- since the AVX2494 has absolutely NO pre-amp outputs whatsoever, I'd consider it a worthless unit. You are stuck with the "40"x4 built-in "amp".
- it does NOT have navigation. (it is an AV'X' unit, not an AV'N', after all)
- it has a 6.5" screen, not 7.5"
- it is last year's model, and should drop in price very soon to reflect that, since Eclipse's site just got updated within the last week with this year's models.

I was checking around with eclipse and I found out that they are probably going to release a newer model next year that will have the outputs.
I put all of the my audio information in my signature. If anyone wants to see pictures or want to know more about anything I would be glad to talk to you.
