A&Q about 350Z
Q:
I just ordered my new silverstone 06 touring model w black leather! Cant wait to get the car. i mostly do city driving, so I was talked into not getting the track or grand tour editions, as the bembo brakes wear out really fast and are very expensive to replace.
What is anyone elses experience with this?
Also, I do have interest in racing tracks, but have never even looked into it. Any suggestions for starting points?
Thanks!

Sounds like you have anice Z coming soon. As for the brembos, where did you hear that they wear out fast. I still have the stock pads on my brembos and I drive fairly hard and even managed 1 hard autocross event. I have 22k miles. Have fun in your new Z. BEN

Really?? interesting! A fleet manager talked me out of getting the brembo models (track and grand touring model) for that reason, and suggested ABS was better for wear and tear in city driving, and for safety as the brembo's can lock up easy and throw into a skid...??

Brembos are the calipers, ABS is standard on all models. Bigger brakes provide better stopping distance in general.

Brembo brakes wear out fast? Where are you gettting this misinformation?
A:
to my knowledge correct me if im wrong but abs is also on the brembos
the brembos are the calipers witch are better than stock. the braking distance increases, heat is lower, to my knowledge they dont wear near as fast as stock would esp. in stop and go traffic.

Just a guess: was there a car in the colors/options you wanted that DID have Brembo brakes in his inventory? '...Cuz I smell the bullshat that I smell when a rep has only NON-Brembo cars to sell...
Brembos, if anything, wear out more slowly. Larger pad braking surface, therefore less friction per inch necessary to stop. I have 70K on my brakes; replaced the original pads with EBC Greenstuff right away, and still running...
Believe only what you think, not what you feel.

The brembo kit is more than just calipers. Its bigger rotors, bigger 4-piston calipers and bigger pads. ABS still works with the Brembo kit.
The brake pads cost more, especially if you get the Brembo brand ones though the Brembo ones aren't necessary. NAPA, BAP, even Autozone and Checker will carry cheaper than Brembo pads that will fit the calipers.
The Brembo pads should last quite awhile, and as long as you don't buy sh!t replacement pads they will last long too. I suggest Axxis or Akebono pads (for whatever brake system you have, they both make them for stock calipers as well)
The Brembo brakes should definitely last as long as the standard brakes though..

Thank you everyone for your help! You are all greatly appreciated!
I have decided to just stick with the stock brakes for now since the car is already halfway here from Japan. Then I may consider an upgrade when those wear out.
I wont be racing track most likely though, so Im thinking they would be a waste for me anyway?
