Wheel Hopping

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

Well first off the Z is not setup to drag race. The rear suspension is all wrong for it. The reason you have wheel hop is because now you have better traction with the new different tires. An independent suspension will wheel hop every time when you get good traction and over power it. That is why Ford is going with a live axle in the new GT 500 mustang and not the independent suspension in the last built Cobras.

There are ways to get rid of the wheel hop but I am afraid for the Z it would cost a lot and you would lose some of the handling. You can not make a car handle and launch good, it is a trade off. You may want to visit some Mustang boards and find out what the Cobra guys did and you may be able to adapt it to the Z.

Also watch the wheel hop in first gear as you stated it was knocking it out of first. What will happen if it is too bad it will break the half shafts or the U joints for them. Best thing to do if you are serious about drag racing the Z put a live axle in it.

LeMans is dead on. The suspension is configured for driving, not for drag racing. You can tighten it up to prevent hop, but the car will be much less forgiving. I think it isn't as expensive to fix as you might think (tighter spring rate, shocks, etc), but it wouldn't be easy either. Also, you can tune an independent rear to handle hard acceleration without a live axle configuration though, just look at any exotic that does 0-60 mph in less than 5 seconds.

The live axle will always be a bit better at the drag strip, the indep. better at the track. Take your pick.

Without tightening up and adjusting the stocks/springs significantly, you'll have to live with it. Wheel hop eats mounts and bushings like fat kid on cake.

have anyone searched for subframe bushings, i know they have them for the z32 but i dont know if they have them for yall

the bushings are supposed to help against wheel-not get rid of it

the only way to get rid of it as stated above is to switch to a straight axle and ill just put in my 2 cents on that one, it will be expensive and hard to do

Yeh if you have wheel spin then more than likely you will have wheel hop. On my car I have air bags inside the springs and my car spins with pretty much no wheel hop.
