A hydro locked engine can indicate flood damage. (Assuming its water in the engine) Just to warn you, Ive tried to revamp a flooded vehicle before, its an electrical nightmare.

I found the same thing, a brickyard auto with 27k miles on it, he was asking 7 or 8 because he was about to go to jail if he didn't get some cash, I could have got it for 6 probably. He moved into a new home with a steeper driveway that collected a lot of water at the bottom. He went out slowly and while giving it gas before letting the clutch out in 1st sucked up enough water to kill the motor. It restarted and ran for a couple days before losing too much compression and just dying. If I had the spare cash at that exact time [trying to sell two vehicles I bought to resell then] I would have jumped on it and made something happen.

Gang,

Hydro locked doesn't always mean by water. When an engine hydraulics, the cylinders are filled with fluid which can be anything that is a liquid. Several years ago I lost an engine in my drag car because I didn’t pull the fuel shut off after a run. I shut the engine down with the Mag kill switch instead. In between runs the high pressure pump bled down through the injectors and dumped fuel into the cylinders. When we attempted to start the motor for the next run we broke a rod and were done for the day. There are about three or four ways for a liquid to enter the working area of the engine. 1 - the air intake. 2 - the injectors. 3 - a blown head gasket or cracked block.

Just my 2 cents.

good point but in this case it was most likely water, i dont think any 350's are cracking blocks, not unless he was FI'd

If your going to be pulling the engien anyway, it might be cheaper to teardown the hydrolocked engine and find the problem. For a rebuild including valves, pistons, connecting rods, bearings etc. Your looking at around $2000. (If you do it yourself)

A shop is probably going to charge you 20 hrs of labor to drop, strip, and redress the new engine. So much over a $1000 and I would look else where. (Although this depends on your area)

It doesnt pay for the shop to rebuild the engine, as you can probably get a new one for less than the labor and machining charges. (Unless you want to build a monster)

You can always go with a modified rebuilt.
