Q:

Hi guys, This might be a stupid question but I am going to ask. Just noticed today when I was cleaning my car the inside my exhaust tips had black residue, I don't remember if it was like that last time when I clean them. Is it normal? This might be something builds up over time. Just cheking. Thanks

+3 normal. If you were building up white residue, then you could worry. That usually indicates you are running lean and hot, which can burn holes in pistons, etc. Black means you are probably running on the rich and cool side of normal - which is right where you want to be. No worries.

Check your plugs. If they are black and sooty then your EFI system could be on the rich side. Check plugs after a 1hr drive, not after idling for a while as idle mix is richer.

Ok, no wonder I still have to clean some black smoke. It just made me wonder, because my neighbor has a convertible enthusiast and his tip gets so dirty and mine doesn't go as much. He uses the dealer oil.

A:

Yeah yours just looks nice because you care enough to clean it. Most people don't..

Rich fuel mixture can cause a blacker smoke and make the problem worse though. Your car may be in better tune than your neighbors as well.

I guess you're right. His Z isn't happy. His front wheels have same color of his exhaust tips. I wanted to make friends with him but he's kind of snob. I always wonder why did he buy that z car for. Usually to pay that kind of money you must like what you're paying for.
