Hawk HPS and shims?

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

I was told by Performance Nissan that the Hawk HPS brake pads do not come with shims? Anybody know if this is correct? I know that universal shims can be purchased and cut to size if needed, but is that necessary? Should I still be using anti-squeal compound on the back of the pads?

A:

i believe i used the stock shims with my hawks and used some high temp brake grease between the shim and the pad.

How does this setup sound? I need new front pads and rotors and new rear pads....

Hawk HPS Brake Pads Front and Rear
Stop Tech Drilled/Slotted Rotors Front Only

Cost for everything through performancenissanparts.com is $355.48 plus shipping and tax

sounds like a good setup...i would also suggest the stoptech Stage 2 upgrade package from performance if you didnt see it. Not sure if you have the money but it would be a good investment. seperately everything in the package would cost around $750, perf.nissan is selling it for $575

It includes what your getting already plus stoptech rear rotors, stoptech stainless steel brake lines, and 3 bottles of motul brake fluid.

Either way, performance nissan is great, I bought my Hawks from them and they are real Z enthusiasts who post alot on various sites like my350Z.com

The front pads are pre-shimmed and the rears use the OEM parts. The front pads won't accept the OEM shim without modding. A call to HPS support confirmed you don't use the OEM shims on the fronts.
