day time running light

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

I could never understand that stupid feature. I know in parts of europe they have that, because of the foggy auto bahn driving and other reasons but here if anyone can't see a car in day light they are f***ing blind and should not be driving.

Never could understand why DRL were even installed on any vehicle.

I have noticed that driving with my lights on during the day on the interstates drastically helps slow hammer-lane drivers move over.

Gee! I didn't know I raised such a "sinful" question. I happen to think it is a nice safety feature. Obviously nothing replace inattentiveness in driving, but a small addition to safety without major expense is a good thing.

My insurance also give 5% discount for this feature, that is one good reason why I ask to see if it can happen with my Z.

So far I never had any problem with cars equipped with such feature, either behind me or from the other side. I found their light to be low intensity and non blinding, even those that are using the high beam with reduced intensity.

Furthermore, the little bulb inside the Z headlight housing is off to the side and I think it is less than 10W of power. I really don't think it will upset any drivers....but again, judging from some of the people here in this forum, there seems to be a lot of angry drivers, so I don't know.

It's ok guys, considering the gas price, congestions, traffic regulations, SUVs, and people watching DVD while driving, having a little head lights on during the day shouldn't be that big of a deal either way. Take a deep breath and relax guys.....

Is it Roadrage or something...

From Merriam-Webster:
hyperbole
Etymology: Latin, from Greek hyperbolE excess, hyperbole, hyperbola, from hyperballein to exceed, from hyper- + ballein to throw -- more at DEVIL
: extravagant exaggeration (as "mile-high ice-cream cones")

As long as it's not the high beams at reduced power (I don't see why that isn't illegal, having a directed beam pointed straight into other drivers' eyes), I won't run you off the road should I encounter you there:)
And if it saves you 5%, why not (that would be a fair amount of scratch for me, given my insurance).
But I still think they'd be less effective overall than simply running yer parking lights or low-beams all the time. But of course that requires you to actually remember to turn them on and off!

when i hear DRLs i automatically think of my sisters '99 Cavalier... you put it in drive and the centermost part of the headlight turns on... a truly ridiculous sight... maybe if they weren't urine yellow they might look better but... they're still DRLs

but i have to agree people shouldn't be worried about not seeing someone elses car in mid daylight... but turning on your lights during adverse conditions ex. rain, fog, night, etc... is all part of being a responsible not to mention a competent driver...

why complain about drl.... in canada they are required on all new cars...
all new cars have them here...if you want to complain about being blinded......

complain about xenon headlights.... which all 350z have.

i think it's a nice feature too. i had them on my last car. it makes the car much more visible.

plus if you ever forget to turn your headlights on at night at least you have something on...
