A&Q about 350Z
Q:
H AH AHA HA...
Sorry ya'll
My bad...what a brain fart.
A New Pontiac GTP!!! I know I know, it's a Pontiac, but I am still learning about my car's potential. It really was a spur of the moment question so I guess it is kind of pointless now.
Again, my deepest apologies. Thanks for the kind (and somewhat humorous) replies despite my stupidity.
thanks

GTP's have a 3.8L supercharged engine. those aren't necessarily slow.

isn't it supercharged?>
advice....you should shift before redline
NNA runs this site!!!

You should be able to take one once you master shifting. The Pontiac GTP has 260hp and 280 torque using a 3.8 V6 supercharged. It also weights slightly more than the 350z at 3583 and from what I can find only comes in an automatic. I can't find any 0-60 or 1/4 mile times but judging from the numbers it puts out and the weight I can't see it being faster than the 350z. Then again with a supercharger it won't take many mods to make it kill the 350z either.

Um....if it was a new gXp then it has a 300hp 5.3 v8 with all kinds of new technologies that according to the car and driver ahead of me it runs 14.3 at 99mph. Isnt that around what a 350 runs?

Its basically a Pontiac Grand Prix. The GTP is just a trim level, similar to GL or GTS on other manufacturers. Nissan uses S, SE, SL and SER. Pontiac Grand Prix GTP is a supercharged 3.8L v6, GXP is a V8, and the GTO obviously is the top of the line with a 6L LS2 V8, derived from the older 5.7L LS1 Corvette engine.
The GTP could easily be modded to beat a stock 350Z, but overall they are probably pretty equivalent. I believe the GTP is only SOHC, so cams would probably be the most beneficial upgrade on that car. I believe the GTP does come with a manual transmission option.

i though you all just had one big brain fart... i was like maybe all these guys were all mistyping "GTO" but nevermind... my stupidity...
anyways... i've raced a couple of GTOs.... and they are pretty damn quick... one i lost to because of heavy traffic... and the other i beat... and had to stop because of heavy traffic... both races were taken up to and in excess of 120 MPH... and both of them were close...
as for the tips... search for shifting topics previously discussed... apparently everyone has their own say on how to shift you are just going to have to read the topics and decide which one makes more sense for you and what works...

knowing where to shift during a race shouldn't ever be a problem. just look at a dyno graph or your engine specs. shift where the power drops off. On a Z31, the power drops significantly after 5200RPMs, so taking it to the redline (6500) just slows you way down. If you're racing, you want to keep your RPMs in between your torque peak and HP peak, this is where your engine is most effective at accelerating your car.
if you have a 2006 350Z, you produce 260ft-lbs of torque at 4800, and 300HP at 6400. If you shift at exactly 6400, you'll be right around 4800 in the next gear. Its not magic, they actually spaced the gears out to utilize the engines power best. So, if you shift right before 6500, you should run your best times.
If you have a 350Z with the 287HP motor, you'll get your best times shifting just after 6200RPMs. Go out and try it.
