A&Q about 350Z
Q:
On my Z32, I mounted a magnetic based CL antenna with a felt bottom right on the roof accessed via the hatch seal at the top.
The fit was sufficient enough not to cut the wire when the hatch closed. Im sure you could do something similar in a 350Z.
I would not leave the antenna up there permanently because over time, the magnet will damage the paint. But for short term uses, it should be fine. Oh.. keep it below 140, also ;)
p.s. Good thought on the CB! CB's are a MUST have for road trips. Mine is "plug and play" so I can quickly connect and diconnect it at will. I love it. Best radar detector available, IMO.

zazupilot - Thanks for the reply. I'll seriously consider that type of installation. Obviously you've had a CB for quite a while. So here's another question. I saw a cb coupler at J. C. Whitney that you would plug into the oem radio antenna and then ofcourse connected to the cb. This would eliminate mounting an additional antenna on the car. I'm sure you have seen these before. Would you recommend it? I'm basing my purchase on your expertise. HA. Just kidding. Also, I'd like to keep the antenna as short as possible. I was considering the glass mounted type from Radio Shack but I don't like installing anything on the outside of the car that may be hard to remove if I don't like it. What year is yourZ32? I have a '91 tt that I bought new and did all my own repairs. Saved a bundle of money and hardship by not going to the dealer. I have driven it 136,00 miles so far and I still love it. A few upgrades like a chip, B&B exhaust, K&N cone filter. I also enjoy my '03 350Z. Unlike other 350Z owners I had no problems. They each have their own characteristics. But if I had to make a choice I would prefer my TT. I didn't mean to make this a long response, it just happened. Thanks again

do you have a link to the CB coupler? If its anything like the Matchmaker splitter, it lets you pick up AM/FM from your CB antenna, not the other way around. Even if you could rig a radio antenna for CB, you could not Peak and Tune it properly, which is essential for proper CB operation.
Short antennae mean poor performance CB wise. I would NOT suggest a permanent install in your Z, as it will be mostly useless in cities, suburbs, etc.. The CBs are only really good when you are on interstates, because they are really "line of sight" and low powered, usually 3 to 6 miles max range (plus all pertinant info gleaned from them are usually interstate related)
I wired some pigtail wires into my cigarette lighter which allows me to plug in the CB when I want and pop the antenna up on top. They tuck away nicely when its un-installed.
Good Luck with your install. The truckers are a strange breed, but if you know the right questions to ask - you can get excellent intel on the road your driving for 100 miles in each direction in a matter of seconds.
p.s. My twin turbo is a '95, and is also stage III like your 91. thanks for asking;)
