Did a Test Drive today!

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

The local dealer let me drive a couple of Z cars today. One had automatic transmission, nice leather seats and all sorts of bells and whistles. I felt like I was in a space capsule! The fun was with the stick shift model. All of a sudden we were at 90 ...and I thought maybe we were going 70...it happened pretty quickly! In any event, the offer made to me was for an 05 Enthusiast, total price including tax, tag, etc....$29,300.00. Does that sound high? Of course, I could also wait...save some more $ and possibly get an 06 instead.

A:

If I were you, I'd get them to make me a deal on the '05 model. You'd save money and have a lighter car that is just as new as the '06 in terms of miles. What's more, I think the '05 has a better look on the tail lights.

Have you been reading the posts on this forum? Walk away from this lemon-plagued POS and look for alternatives. There are plenty of other cars out there at or less the price of the Z that offer as much bang for the buck without unexcusible and hideous defaults like "window streaks."

A:

please diregard peope like ngm obvioulsy he doesnt own a 350Z and therefore has no credible opinion on the matter. I personally would wait for the 06 model but most of the problems were fixed for the 05. 29,300 is an alright price but with the 06's now coming out I would say you could get a better price than that on an 05.

Wrond drivenz. I was the enthusiastic per-order owner of an 03 Track Model with a plethora of 350Z t-shirts, caps, and posters, only to have my bubbble (and trust in Nissan) by the problems I experienced with that POS. Happily, I got rid of it and vow to do my best to alert future buyers not fall into the same trap and hopefully bring Nissan to atone for their deception.

A:

Again...do not listen to ngm. His one experience is not representative of the total population of owners. I have seen so many Z owners that are in love with their cars and do not mind the MINOR problems that come along. If you loved the performance, you will love the car. Grease streaks, tire feathering, and all that. ngm do you just wait around on this forum for potential buyers and then aggresively voice your distaste when you find one. I never see you post anything on any thread other than one's posted by potential buyers/new owners. You are a waste of time...

OK, on to the advice section of this post.

You can get a better deal than that. Well, I say that, but it depends of course on where you live, as some others on this forum will tell you. I got my '05 enthusiast MT for just under 29,000 with tax, tag, title ( I think the total was 28,700). I live in TN. I also got the aero package, splash guards, carpet and trunk mats and aluminum kick plates. I think it is a very solid package, I love it. I may get leather down the road from Cole Brothers but who knows....point being, this was in August. Now it is October and the '06 models are on their way! You should be able to talk them out of at least 500-1000 dollars, especially if you are buying...are you buying? If you are leasing your negotiations are limited because they have already absorbed one year of ownership, and even with no miles, that costs them on the residual. They will be looking to pass that cost on to you. I would suggest you offer $28,000 and see if you can't bring them halfway. Use the argument that the model has changed pretty significantly from the '06, and that the longer it sits on their lot, the longer it sits on their balance sheet as an inventory item instead of cash!!! Cash drives any industry, and it is the bottom line in any deal!!!!

All in all...either one is good but I say '05...its lighter, faster, looks better, and hasn't been "de-torqued" (the new motor in the MT's is 300 hp with only 360 ft./lb. of torque, as opposed to 287 hp with 274 ft./lb.s of torque) I think those numbers are right...please correct me if I am wrong anyone!!!

Stop being a dick. Don't post on a Z forum if you have nothing constructive to say about the Z car. All cars have bugs, the 350Z is perfect for what it is: a cheap, high performance sports car. The only serious problem is tire wear, and many people have fixed this by using different tires. Almost all 350's come with Bridgestone Potenzas by default, but others are available from the dealer if you ask for them. Try Goodyear or Toyo, or whatever other reputable brand the dealer has. This may help or solve the problem.

Easy solution for grease streaks: windex with vinegar and a paper towel. keep them in your hatchback.

My experience IS REPRESENTATIVE of a lot of 350Z owners as witnessed on this web it. There is an old adage, "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't it drink."

A:

by your low post count and not giving any reference to why the car was so bad and not backing up what you said I made the assumption that you didnt know what you were talking about ngm. Im sorry you had such a bad experience with the car but there are many people that have had good experiences(me being one of them and my car is an 03 preorder vin#189). Many people like to come on here and harp about problems but you dont find many who a year or 2 years into their purchase randomly post how much they have enjoyed their car. Myself and others on this board are just trying to counter those that are so quick to dissaude someone.

I have a '04.5 Touring Roadster.....so far.....No problems.

My SB ZR still feels like HEAVEN....what a wild ride!

A:

I have a preordered touring and have had no problem what so ever with the car not even tire problem. The only thing was the bose system needed a new amp and that was taken care of under warranty. I can't say one persons ownership problems would stop me from buying the car. I will buy another Z any day, so I would not listen to any negative comments like that.

some people had a sour experience with the car, and for some reason they make the decision that nobody else can have a good experience because of that.

Actually, the dealer did say that if I had bought today while at the dealership they would sweeten the pot a little more probably...but that since I said it would be about a week before I would be able to make the transaction they gave me that number I mentioned earlier. The two cars that are available are at two other dealerships out of town and not here where I live...One is a dark grey...and the other is red. I have looked at other vehicles but haven't seen anything in this price range...for example...the Honda S2000 with a hardtop is about 48000or 49000...the Porsche Boxster is 44000 before other needed add-ons...ok...and don't jump on me about inquiring about this one guys...but the Pontiac Solstice with what you would need with it would run around 25000...but the Pontiac people I have talked with don't know if a hardtop is an offered accessory as of now. It seems for a serious little car, the Z doesn't have any competitors...at least price wise. Anyone have any other ideas?

A:

if your're looking at a 2 seat sports cars in that price range the Z is at the top. granted you could get an STI or EVO that would be much faster and handle as well as the Z but you'll also be driving a souped up econobox 4 seater. You can also throw the eclipse, mustang, crossfire, gto, audi TT, and RX-8 into the mix but biases aside i wouldnt want any of them instead of my Z. One other thing though you mentioned the s2000's price but im sure it isnt tht much, more like mid 30's. the new miata is also out if you want somehting real small.

Two of the complaints I see that keep cropping up on this site are: 1) Tire Feathering; 2)Transmission Grinding. Are there any 2005 Z owners who are having such problems?

A:

I haven't had a single problem, except for the loser who backed into me while I was at school and didn't decide it was important to leave his or her information. 03 Touring. Everyone's experience is different, if you have something wrong for them to fix it. If they refuse three times, or don't fix it correctly three times, pursue the lemon law and make them buy it back.

EVERY CAR HAS POSSIBLE ISSUES...... the ones with negative experiences I of course feel for. I might even be on here posting negative stuff if I had their experience. I used to have an eclipse and same thing on their message board, typical problems that happen to eclipse owners.

Good luck regardless which direction you choose to go!

A:

I prefer the adage: "you can lead an ******* to a Z enthusiast website, but you can't get him to post - he'll do that allll by himself".

hehe

Believe only what you think, not what you feel.

A:

Barry Gross...The piece over the engine is the strut bar. It does not resolve the cupping issue and yes it's been on all earlier models.

I WOULD NOT BUY THE CAR!!! I just wrapped up a year long lawsuit with Nissan due to ZLEMON. I had an CS 2004 Touring. The Z is a nice car but just not worth dropping $400 - 500 in tires every 5,000 miles. Not to mention the transmission and axel issues...

Do yourself a favor and buy something else.
