A&Q about 350Z
Q:
You're not going to lose a full year's depreciation on the '05 because you're buying it with no miles on it, and it hasn't been titled (it's new). Nevertheless you have to get something taken off the price to make it worhwhile for you to be driving an "older" car.
I bought a '90 300ZX in fall of '91 (after the '92s came out). The original owner had only had it for one year. He got a deal on it, didn't drive it much and it still smelled new. I got 1/3 off the sticker for a new smelling car with 3400 miles on it. And I still have it. Should I have bought a new '92 for another $10k?
I could make the counter argument that if you're only going to keep it a few years, still get the '05 because more of the depreciation comes off the front end. In this case, you save on the front end and lose a bit when selling. With the '06 you pay more now and get a little more later depending on how long you keep it and what condition it's in. The point is, to get a good deal when you buy it, i.e. get some depreciation knocked off the price.
In the old days, when models changed bodies every year, everybody could tell you what year your car was. It's always going to be cheaper to buy an older car. Why not get one that still looks like the new one?

I would definitely go for 06. With the changes that you'll see on the 06 VS 05 even though it's not much, but most important of all the tire problem has been fixed on 06 according to some.

I wouldn't get the '06 because I perfonally could do without the extra 150 lbs. or whatever it is that the car has gained. I also like the look of the '05 tail lights.

i personally would not buy either. there are some really nice cars out there that are not plagued with the history this new line of Z cars have.

haha, every thread gets to this point............. wow.

yeah, pretty crazy, huh? These new Z's truly do have horrible reliability, no questions about it. What a shame!! I love the car and enjoy it every time I drive it, and I think it's one of the dopest sports cars ever put out. But calling the reliability subpar for the 350 would be an understatement.
Maybe when my clutch stops chattering, the CD player stops skipping, and the rear tire noise I've been getting shows itself to a service advisor, I can forget about all these problems.
But then again, I could just screw it all and throw a Vortech on there... Decisions...

yeah... my problem is Nissan states that the clutch chattering is "normal" since when the he77 has a clutch rattling been "normal" doesn't that "normally" mean the dang throw-out bearing is going? Are the Nissan reps or techs just that dang lazy to not want to open the thing and find out?
here's the kicker... the state (on my invoice) that they compared it to a similar vehicle with similar miles... and it was the same... that says nothing to me except that there is now 2 similar vehicles with similar milage with similar problems...so my question so what should it "normally" sound like?!?
... and then they want me to rate them... are they asking for an insult?
Anyways... i really gotta say... i love driving the car... it's so noticable... especially if you have the slightest thing done to it... the RWD is the most fun layout in my opinion...
the problem i have run into in terms of maintenance... can't fit my floor jack under the body to raise it up so i can fit under it to change the oil... but simple solution... ramps...
have fun...

Well, I don't think you know either

I've heard a very knowledgable 3rd party guy say that the clutch chatter is normal on the 350 too. He said it was becuase there is a "double flywheel" or something...
But the friggin' car shakin when I engage the transmission isn't normal to me, but hey- I guess I never was a Ford or a Nissan owner.
Love it, hate it.... the 350z from Nissan... A little slice of heaven, a little slice o hell.

Well this is an interesting question. Since I sued Nissan (and won) becuase of issues with my car and you are dead set on getting one of them I would say buy the 2005. I say this for this reason:
If you only want the car for a couple of years it is perfect. Within the first 5,000 miles more than likly your car will need new front tires. Just go to your dealer and say you want the problem fixed. They will say they can't do anything for you. That is a good thing... Because they have now just breached their warrenty. Maybe go in a couple more times to different dealerships asking them to fix it. Now you are ready to file a lawsuit. After about a year you will have all of your money back and been able to drive a two seat car for a couple of years for free other than gas.
However if you want to keep the car for a while longer I would maybe go with the 2006. Maybe Nissan has fixed all of the major issues... Who knows? I would not hold my breath though.
