The newer ones are 300 HP, but the older ones are 287 or something. The 0-60 mph are somewhere in the high 5s from what most magazines report (and Nissan).

Has anyone heard anything on the 07 350Z & what specs it will have? I also wanted to know the yr they will redesign the 350Z. I was told in 08 they were coming out with the 450Z, & it was gonna have more hp. Is this a rumor or fact? Please no smart ass remarks.

You gotta go out & buy a copy of the November issue of Road & Track.

My SB ZR still feels like HEAVEN....what a wild ride!

A:

let's hope they don't do that to the front end.

Thats one nasty looking 350z. I really hope they don't use that design. I also hope they don't make the mistake of making the motor bigger. They really should go back to the inline 6 engines or atleast stay with the 3.5. There is so much more they can do 3.5 liter that they don't need to go bigger.

R&T has no idea what the cars going to look like...like they said though i doubt they'll venture into FI, the price point of the Z is such a huge selling point. Also theres plenty of aftermarket products that can fill the void if one desires, without nissan having to worry about warranty costs and higher pricing. For the next gen the only thing id like to see is a bit of an hp bump that actually results in better performance and some weight savings, or atleast make a stripped model. Maybe take the enthusiast or current track and just strip the hell out of it...maybe itll cost more because of the weight saving tech but so be it.

the Z already does 0-60 in 5.5

I realize the 350z can be driven faster, but the magazines often report 5.8s, so the 5.5 would be an improvement. Actual "quick times" will probably be in the 5.2-5.3 range. Who knows.. it all matters on altitude and temperature anyway.

I've heard 308 and 315 for the HP on the new 350z from some folks "in the know", which would be nice to see. It would be altering more than just the intake though.

A:

well the Z will get the new VQ35hr...which is the next gen vq35 so it will be considerably different

The new G35 Sedan is said to have increased hp to a new standardized SAE hp rating of 306, which would be similar to 315 in the old non-standardized hp system. They said it increased the 0-60mph time from 5.9 to 5.2, and the 1/4mile from 14.6 to 13.9. (This info from Nissan Sport magazine)

If they can slightly tune the Z for more performance than the G, then we might see a 315 standardized hp (about 330-340 non-standardzed hp) and a 0-60 improvement to 5.0-5.2, and a 1/4mile in the low- to mid-13s.

Of course this is all guesswork, but we should get at least the new G35 hp level (306), and with the slightly lighter weight, that would increase the 0-60 and 1/4mile significantly over past 350Zs.

Other changes to the new G include: higher revving engine to 7500rpm, a wider stance, increased lateral g's from 0.85 to 0.87, increased spot welds to increase overall stiffness by 40%, and more.

They did add some more weight, but hopefully they can keep from adding weight to the already hefty Z.

"They said it increased the 0-60mph time from 5.9 to 5.2"....really? wow i hadnt heard that. .7 secs off a 0-60 time is no easy feat, thats pretty impressive if its true. 0-60's are always subject to conditions and hardly repeatable but still.

Yea, Nissan Sport magazine on page 14 referenced Car & Driver for that spec. And just to make sure I was clear, this was regarding the '07 sedan.

But like you said, it's all dependent upon conditions. But even if it was only 0.5 seconds faster, that is still quite impressive, especially considering it gained about 50 lbs in weight.

Wait, American automakers have already been reporting SAE hp for years. Are you talking about the difference between the "metric" japanese PS rating and the US "crank hp" rating?

A:

It was SAE before, also, but a different rating.

----
SAE-certified horsepower

In 2005, the Society of Automotive Engineers introduced a new test procedure (J2723) for engine horsepower and torque. The procedure eliminates some of the areas of flexibility in power measurement, and requires an independent observer present when engines are measured. The test is voluntary, but engines completing it can be advertised as "SAE-certified".

Many manufacturers began switching to the new rating immediately, often with surprising results. The rated output of Cadillac's supercharged Northstar V8 jumped from 440 hp (328 kW) to 469 hp (350 kW) under the new tests, while the rating for Toyota's Camry 3.0 L 1MZ-FE V6 fell from 210 hp (157 kW) to 190 hp (142 kW). The first engine certified under the new program was the 7.0 L LS7 used in the 2006 Chevrolet Corvette Z06. Certified power rose slightly from 500 hp (373 kW) to 505 hp (377 kW).
