Should I upgrade to this 911?

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

What do you guys think: Should I trade in my Z for this beautiful 911?

.

Sorry for this burly, ugly link, but it works if you just paste it into your browser. I don't have the skills to make this thing clickable.

Anyway, as much as I love my Z, would consider this a huge upgrade, for only a few thousand clams more. What do you think?

Man, that is a giant link. Look in the subject of this post to see how to make it a clicky. .

No, you should upgrade to Porsche. It's one of my favorite cars of all times. Highly moddable too.

Wow, for that price, a used 911 might be the way to go. Drat, if only they were a bit larger inside.

A:

I dunno, I think the 350 looks a lot better than the Porsche.

Heck why not, if you love the 911 more. How many miles do you have on your Z and what year is it? One question I would ask myself if I wanted to do it would be, do I want to trade in a 3 year old car with the 6 years or almost seven year old one? Assuming your Z is a 03. There are many factors to consider but that would be one of the main ones. milege and age of the car are main factors for me and then the conditon and so for.

hey i know i dont belong to the 350 z people but i had to post since this about porsche's , that original porsche your looking at if i am not mistaken , its one of the watercooled ones that came out around that time , it is one of the most problem porsche out there , the 930 is a great car , my father has a 930 and the are higly tunable to over 400hp easily, but it came with the 3.3 liter mated to a k26 turbo , while this a great engine , the next gen porsche's the 993's are 3.6 turbo and a couple of years later 3.6 twin turbo , all of these engines are oil cooled as all porsches should be, so if you are consideringg going for a porsche either look into a 930 or a 993, or one of the newer 996 turbo's (lotsa money) .

and plus i think the boxter style headlights are kind of ugly(they went back to the round type this year) ,also you can definetly get yourself into a turbo for that much.

911 is an awesome car. I also looked into getting a used 911. When I factored in the price of a used 911 compared to a brand new Z I felt the Z was a better buy. The performance of the Z is not too far off the 99 911. 911's are very expensive to service and repair.

A:

i love porches but your better of with the 350 in the long run.our Z's have their share of problems but porches issues cost alot more.best bang for the buck definitely goes to the Z.JMO :)

hey i think porsche is german for pussy magnet , also it has been held as one of the "super cars" (ferrari, lambo, and of course porsche), if you can afford it and afford the servicing then i would say go for it , i love my nissan to death but if i had the dough to roll around in a porsche id definetly leave my z in the garage under a cover ,collecting dust , but definetly get a good one not that watercooled crap ,look into the older 93-97 as the interiors are just as nice and they have the better reputable engine , if you arent going turbo then stick with the nissan and drop a sc or a turbo kit in it , a porsche is definetly like a toy , i would go grocery shopping with it , unless i was filthy rich, and they are not that expensive to repair , they might be a little more than other comuters but if you look around i am sure you can find a shop that wont rip you and tell you your flux capacitor is broken, and plus again if you are going to have a porsche id keep it as a weekend car , definetly not something i would beat on daily.

A:

That's the model Porshe I was looking at getting before I bought my Z. What really clinched it for me was the extremely high cost in repair and parts. Do you have any idea how much just the muffler costs? Look it up and a few other parts just to get a better idea of what kind of maintnance you'd be looking at.
So I decided to get the similiar performance Z with Nissan parts and service being way way cheaper than the Germans. Of course you don't get the panache or status symbol as the Porshe, but if you can afford it go for it.

who buys a NON-turbo porsche?

"Morover, I can't think of any production car in recent years as problem-plagued as the 350Z. Just look at the list of complaints on this forum."

Hang on there, cowboy. There are plenty of cars with worse reliability records than the 350Z. Check Consumer Reports, they recommend the 350Z; meaning it has above average reliability. You can't judge the car's overall reliability by reading an Internet forum. Most everyone with problems comes to these forums just to complain.

"Those 3400 pound overweight Z's are doing good to outrun a stray dog."

I guess that makes the Porsche Boxster a stray dog to you? Yes, I know the 350Z is no 911 turbo, and it isn't priced to compete with that car either.

As for Porsche's reliability... Consumer Reports doesn't have enough data to report on most of them. But you can ask someone that has owned one, like Mecinoid.

I am not relying just on the this forum, but also the long list of offical Nissan TSB's. I wonder if they have a TSB on hitting the door panel to get the electric window to work. Or, kick the tire to change teh alignment to cure feathering. HA!

i second that JtotheH the Z has almost as good of performance as the stock 911 and better than the boxter.i've driven all three porches,boxter,911,and 911 twin turbo.wasn't impressed with the first two but creamed my pants in the twin turbo."to get what you pay for"what planet are you friggin from ngm.i know people with porches yeah they're great cars but damn the maintainance is outrageous.the Z has always been the poormans porche.for the money your getting a great car.i have no complaints and am still enjoying the ride."problem plagued" can you say "ford" or are we just talking japanese and german.in that case can you say "BMW".they've been having there share of problems aswell.bottom line all car makers have there issues and it will take some time for the bugs to be worked out.i'm not complaining oh and by the way my Z weighs 3225 pounds.z ya

i agree id love to have a porsche but i have to say with maintence costs id rather the 350......and with all the issues with the 350 its a coin toss but over all i say 350. just my 2 cents

A:

There is nothing German worth owning. Unless you have a spare car for parts or an unlimited supply of cash...

A:

i get wholesale on all german parts and i do my maintenance so i guess i got it good , i love german cars , very well designed easy to work on, all the mercedes and one porsche i have are older 80's models, except for the e55 and my z is an 88 turbo,84 300sd turbodieles 30mpg big car , two 70's merceds trying to get rid off, and the 911 targa turbo widebody

A:

Thanks for the input, guys. I think I'm going to remain loyal to my Z!

Look at the long term at remaining loyal to your problem-plagued Z. If you figure the amount you will spend in repairing all the defects in this lemon after the warranty expires, plus the added depreciation, you have th emoney to get your 911.

Porsche is superb car, afterall my next car could be the cayman S (I will have to first see the looks from side), but I had tested driven several 1994-1997 (911 model) that were available at the time before I got the Z. I would say that Z drive much better, and in my opinion, all the old porsches feel so nervous at high speed. Also, the new Z feel much more comfortable. I don't really know how reliable are the old porsches in term of maintenance, but after driving the old porsches my feeling told me it's not.
