When I slam my breaks, the breaks work at first, then the brakes release and I hit the car in front of me. (that's what happened last time) For some reason my breaks give in when they are used with too much force. Anyway, I just changed my brakes about 3 months ago and my Nissan dealership said my brakes were fine! How could that be?! Any idea on what the problem could be? When I use too much force with the brakes, it's as if my car is sliding on ice, it just continues in motion and doesn't stop. Scary.

thats your abs,(anti lock brakes ) its normal.
if you didn't have abs you would have slid into the car in front of you with your wheels locked, screaching all the way

That's what ABS allows you to do: maintain vehicle control while steering clear of the obstacle causing you to brake.
Check pages 5-20 and 5-21 of that owners manual Nissan provided you.

if it was a really hard panic stop yea that was the abs kicking in. However if you have the non-brembo brakes they arent immune to fade. Sometimes after a few hard stops I can notice some fade, which could have contributed to your accident if you had been doing some hard stops before hand.

1z4u2c and 72n03Zs have it right. ABS prevent your wheels from locking in a panic braking situation. They can cause the stopping distance to be slightly longer, but you will be able to steer during the brake allowing you to go around the problem.
This is why in every driving school I've been in or heard about they talk about threshold braking. This is where you push the brake hard enough to reach the threshold of where the ABS will kick in (or where the wheels lock on non-ABS cars), but you don't cross the threshold. This keeps your wheels rolling, for control, and minimizes your stopping distance.
The trick to threshold braking, is that the threshold changes with road conditions and it is also different for every car.

i know how you feel... i've had the same crap happen to me... it's strange to have such touchy brakes during normal conditions but when you really need them they fade and keep you rolling...
that's why when stopping... i don't just "full on" my brakes but rather tap them continuiously... not only does it slow you down... but it also keeps your brakes from over-heating (non-brembo)... and also flashes your lights for the morons behind you that may not be paying attention... flashing lights attract the eye better than just lit up ones...
