Dude, I live in North Texas. I can't get gas here because of the hurricane! All the gas stations are out of gas practically, and there are long lines to get what is availible.
Last time I filled up though, it was about $52.

same here. good thing both cars are full and sitting in the garage.

Okay, I'm exagerating. The lines are long, but they usually have premium available.
I'm going to wait to fill up my empty tank until the storm blows over because there are tons of people passing through town, trying to get gas on their way to find open hotel rooms in Oklahoma. It's better to save it for them.

Ever wonder if they are really out of regular [and plus]? I can promise you many are not. My girlfriend put premium 3.10+ gas into her not exactly showcar 95 corolla because her dad pays for it anyways last night. When you have people that are desperate to fill up 'just incase' but not in huge crowds, why not?

Yes, I'm sure that they are actually out of regular. Big gas retailers are extemely concious of their image and they don't like to be sued for fraud.

All the gas stations are independently owned, but in a franchise format obviously. I know two guys who have fathers that own a couple gas stations. They mainly sort of 'set up' immigrants that have cash but no knowledge of the american business system [or language for that matter]. They take an 800k loan from the dads I was talking about, and the dads do the rest until the business is completely ready to go. Seems stupid to a lot of Americans, but they are some of the few still chasing the real American dream, not get a job and go no where like 98% of those already here do. My mom was also in a court case where an immigrant from india had accidently done tax evasion and tons of fraud unknowlingly because his 'mentor' who helped him set up his gas station was cutting corners. The mentor was fined 100k and 2 years in jail.
Long story short, the friends of mine say a lot of the 'more aggressive' gas station owners they set up all do that in conjunction in areas.
