I find the rearview mirror worthless anyway and probably wouldn't miss it.

I had to get a new windshield when a fist sized rock fell from the top of a cliff onto my windshield. I paid $169 to safelite to get it replaced. Quotes from Elite Auto Glass and a few others were all under the $250 mark.
I suggest you shop around a little before you pay $1000 for a new windshield.

Surely there is some independent place that can get you a windshield for much less. where i live, there is a mama and papa shop that has windshields for all types of vehicles and installs them too. one guy with a 350z, had a similar problem like yours. he got his windshield(parts and labor) for $140. very good quality windshield too!

Unless Nissan can prove that it was not a defect it has to be covered under warranty and they have to cover the repair if the car is still in its miles
