A&Q about 350Z
Q:
Hi everyone,
I've mentioned this before, but still haven't found a solution and was wondering if anyone had help to offer.
From my rear passanger tire, I hear a very loud, high-pitched, metal-to-metal squeaking sound that follows the motion of the wheel. It increases when pulling left, but most of the time you can't hear it at all. It seems to occur after hitting a bump, and I'll hear it for a while before it goes away. It will happen and be very loud for some distance, but then it will completely disappear and not be heard for tens of miles. And of course, it will NEVER happen in front of the service people at the dealers.
I admit that I've driven the Z hard at times, but in general I drive like a grandma. Could it have happened from doing a few slides in the mall parking lot? Maybe it bent something in there and the metal will sometimes touch?
If anyone could help me know where to go from here or what to advise the service guy about the problem, I would be greatly in your debt.
Thanks,
tha stankanator

Have a look at the thin shroud on the back side of brake rotor . Once it was rubbing no clue how it got bent and another time I hade a stone wedged in there. both times it would come and go, but an easy fix and real obvious when you stick your head in there.

Yeah, I would just clean the brakes really good and see what you get after that. Very likely as mcjohn has said .... sometimes dirt, rocks, etc.... just get in there and cause weird noises. Same thing was happening on my Pathfinder last week. Just took everything apart, cleaned it out really good with Brake Kleen, lubed the slides, and no more noises. ;) I hate it when my wife finds noises for me to fix. ;)
