Mine's tinted, but only 35% since I live in the Seattle and don't see the sun that often. ;-)

ya, i guess you wouldn't need it as much in seattle. i live in florida and i swear they should issue sunglasses when babies come out of the womb.

I have ceramic tint which comes in 3 different shades, dark, medium or light. I went with the medium on the rear window and light on the doors and side. It made the inside so much cooler on the summer 105F days that its worth it to me and I like the looks too.

A:

I put 20% on the hatch and 35% and the four side windows.

It is perfect!

On sunny, hot days the rear hatch window is like a magnify glass.

My side windows are pretty light and together the car is lot cooler.

I have 15% on the hatch. You can still see the silver strut bar.

First of all, very, very few people get tint on their windshields. If you did, it would be like wearing very weak sun glasses during nightime/daytime. Tint on the sides have an at most minor effect on visibility, if not better since you don't get glare looking into your mirrors. This does not apply to limo tint so please refrain from idiotic comments [not directed towards anyone in particular].

Secondly, tint preserves your interior. If your car is parked outside all the time without tint, you will know it especially if you have leather. This is the main reason I do it, besides it makes your car look much better.

Thirdly, it makes your interior less hot, especially while driving [this obviously applies to when direct sunlight is on it]. It is arguable whether the actual temperature of the air is effected with tint due to a supposed 'green house' effect when the car is just parked, but regardless your seats and paneling won't be as hot due to the deflected waves. It's better for you to, since many type deflect UV radiation significantly.

Possible cons, if you have terrible night vision and get your back window dark, it can be harder to see at night when looking for other things besides cars. The effect on your visibility of actual headlights is very low, but perhaps buildings on the side of the road will be difficult to see. I had 10% tint on my z32 hatch, and there was a noticeable decrease in visiblity at night, but 10% is pretty extreme, legal is 35% and 5% is jet black limo style.

On my LS400, I have all the windows at 20%, and the windshield at 35%. The windshield was the best part by a landslide. No more damn glare from other cars and I never realized how much my eyes strained during normal driving until I got tint on the front. I like it more at night as well because it makes on coming traffic much more bearable and honestly I can't really tell that it's worse except the 'lines' that extend from bright lights [know what I mean?] are no longer bothersome. I could see how on a very poorly lighted expressway it might be an issue if you have bad night vision and or weak headlights. Makes your car look great with tint on the windshield too.

Just make sure you don't clean it with products with amonia.

And yes, tint on your windshield is illegal and should be. There are too many people that would abuse it [get too dark] and people with eye problems may put themselves at danger.

i had a friend that tinted his front windshield. i road with him during the day and i thought it was pretty cool. i've never driven in are car at night with a tinted windsheild.

i love tint, but am way hisitent to put it on the windshield.

if cops where i lived enforced the tinting law half the cars would be off the road.

A:

haha, I know exactly what you mean justin. I have a friend with a black big body mid 90's benz that has his front windshield at 20%. Looks absolutely killer and is pretty cool during the daytime, but at night he has to be a little careful and only drive on well lit expressways. 40% or higher on the windshield will knock off a lot of glare and have no effects on nightdriving.
