GTO vs 350Z

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

This got so interesting I still have to talk about it. Look guys the 350Z is a bad ass car hands down but the GTO has 400 bhp 6speed trans and also IRS so it cant handle that bad, both cars also have the same price range.
So tell me what you think?

It's a Pontiac...

and...

It does a terrible job serving it's heritage...

It looks very similar to the Bonneville...

I don't know. For some reason I just can't get into them. However, for someone who likes a good four door sedan with wicked power, it may be a good choice. If you are trying to find something to replace the Z...you can't use the GTO. It is in a completely different class. Muscle Car vs. Sports Coupe. They Z and the GTO would probably work well as alternate cars for a driver with a two car garage.

The engines are different two. If I am not mistaken the GTO uses a V8 to deliver those horses while the Z uses an aluminum block V6. The characteristics and personalities of those engines are as different as men and women.

GTO = UGLY.

GTO numbers

1/4 mile=13.2
0-60= 5.2

So the GTO is a faster car but its also american made so that means it will last about 40,000 miles haha!

The only thing Pontiac has going for them is the new roadster and I would guess it will be just another underpowered Miata. Looks good. Taste bad.

Its sad but true the GTO will kick that ass all day and it cost the same come on 400 horse, name another car with those numbers at that price
But on the other hand in 4 years the GTO wont be worth **** wile the Z will hold its value

between the z33 and a gto... the gto! if it was a z32tt it might be a different story...

Don't actually have one yet.... but next year i will.

See the Z is cool but im looking bang for buck the GTO has a lot of it with that corvette power train.

The GTO uses the Corvette engine. Sure it has V8 power. But I still see more 350Zs on the road than GTOs. The GTO just doesn't have an eye catching look. To me the GTO looks like a Chevy Cavailer on steroids. Put the 2 side by side, you will see what I mean. I never even considered a GTO besides my wife an I were looking for a roadster and she was drooling all over the 350Z so I got her one as an anniversary gift.

GTO more bang for your buck?

Only if you value raw power over everything else.

GTO is an aging model that has been out since 2000 and is schedueled to be hualed over soon, and it's definatley lacking in the looks department.

It's cheap power nothing more...

Price of a GTO is 33K then you have a gas guzzler tax of $1300.

Price of a Base 350Z is 26.8K.

So, 34.3K vs 26.8K ..... Save ~7.5K and buy a 350Z.

If speed 1/4 mile time is what you are after get a new Mustang GT. They are closer to the price of our 350Z's and are way better looking than the GTO.

Like I said before If I was going to replace my Sable it would be a good choice for me. Otherwise, I wouln't own one if it was my only car.

Personally, I like the '98-02 Firebirds and Camaros. You can buy one for less than 15K and add a couple of goodies and it'll beat that any '04 or before GTO in the 1/4 mile. With a couple of mods it should be able to put away the '06 as well. This is still to be seen. Around the corners 350Z or Firebird or Camaro.

So, what do you want? Do you want a fast, straight line car, that seats 4 and looks like Dad's car. Or do you want a sports car that cranks in the corners and gets great gas mileage around town.

Your answer is in what you want. Frankly, I don't really understand why you got rid of the vette. That's a supercar and it will put away the new GTO right now. So, I think really you want the 350Z because of the styling. So, why go to a GTO?

I'm glad I don't have to make that decision with my Firebird in the garage keeping the Z company. ;)

Or you could take the 7.5K you save buying your Z and buy one of these like I did:

Then again it is all in how you want to spend your money. I can think of a lot better ways to spend 34K however and I love Pontiacs .... Just not the GTO. I doesn't remind me of my old Goat at all. Period.

It's still a great car just not my kinda car.

Edit - I'm in a LS1 Club the New GTO comes every so often. It's slower and can't keep up with the rest of us. Guy says I wish my car handled like your guys. My wife also fell in love with the Z and thinks the GTO is just OK.

how about getting a 240z and putting a 350 in it?? a little of a project, but crazy fast.

Don't actually have one yet.... but next year i will.

Just looked at your other posts and I quote you:

"Its ok when i hit the gas i wont be thinking about the looks!"

"Ya but (username) when im laying down 400 horse reliability wont be going through my head."

After rereading this..... I say go for the GTO. It looks like you really need that HP and are unhappy with the power the 350Z gives you.

I mean if I had to get rid of my Firebird with all that torque I would be unhappy. So, it looks like you are a torque addict. Not a bad thing. ;)

GO FOR IT !!!! Buy the GTO ..... I think you will be much happier with that purchase considering what you have posted.

Good luck with GM on any problems you have however.

Nissan has been great to me. GM has not.

I think that GTO looks killer in black, like a death gangsta beast. The firebird is also badass-looking, just outdated. It'll look great again in another 10 years.

Actually, all those cars in the pictures look really good. I'm really proud to own such a dope-looking car as the 350z.

I've never driven either one of these cars....but I'm almost certain that the 350z is a much better base for a real track-friendly car....I'm sure it will run a good 100,000 miles longer than a gto as well

ok so maybe all of us are biased with z's....but when it all comes down to it....argument means nothing.
