Dude, I had a Firebird for nine years and always put Mobil 1 in it. It ran like brand new until the day that jerk wrecked it. I will not buy anything else.

I've heard that Royal Purple is also a good choice.

I was using Mobile 1 for 7-8 years. Then I switched to Redline. I have been using that for the past 5-6 years.
I agree Royal Purple is good stuff too. I think it is about $7.50 a bottle now at my local parts store.
Now for the switch back. The new SuperSyn Mobil 1 is suposed to be even better than the old Mobile 1. That old Mobil 1 would break down only slightly before the Redline oil. I am switching back to Mobil 1 for two reasons:
1) It will only cost me $25 per oil change vs $48 for the Redline. I like Redline oil but I don't think it is worth twice the amount. Price recently jumped from $5 a bottle to $8 a bottle. I can get Mobil 1 at Costco for $25 a six pack. It really isn't that bad when a oil change is less than a tank of gas. Really just don't see the need to pay double the amount for microscopic differences. Both oils are the most high tech stuff out there.
2) I noticed the the 5-30 Mobil One formula was giving me better start up qualities over the Redline in my Firebird. So, now I'm going to start using it on my 350Z. Nissan manual recommends 5-30 wieght oil. However, you can use 10-30 if you live in the right climate. I have found that the 5-30 will break down slightly faster than the 10-30 but I never let my oil stay in there that long anyways. Most of the time, I change my oil as often as 3K miles, even on Synthetic oils. I know that is a bit of a overkill. But, I like to get under there and see how things are going every 3K or so anyways. Oil is cheap protection.
For my daily drivers: Nissan Pathfinder, Motorhome, Boat, and Sable I use
Valvoline 10-30 Durablend. This is a blended half dino, half syn oil. It is great stuff as well @ $2.60 a bottle. I just don't see the need to go overboard on those cars. I mean Durablend is great stuff, I just don't mine spending a little more for the best possible oil in my performance cars.
Sometime Sunday my 350Z gets the new Mobil 1. I have to take pictures of the quick change panel I made to show others anyways.
Have fun and use the factory filter, K & N, Penzoil or WICS. My cousin is a Nissan Master Mechanic and has seen more motors oil starved by bad filters than you could imagine. Nissan won't cover them if the motor is blown due to oil starvation and a Nissan filter is not installed. You'll be on your own.
The VQ motors seem to be the ones they have the most trouble with.
Some oil passages are smaller than others and can be a problem with some of the aftermarket filters he says.
Needless to say, I only use NISSAN filters on my Pathfinder and 350Z. They are only like $5ea in the two pack. I use K & N on my Firebird and WICS or Penzoil on the other cars. Boat has to use Volvo Filters.
I know this is probably too much input but it was interesting information I have collected over the years and think it is worth sharing.
Good luck.

Mobile 1 huh? I hope im not damaging my engine, but I found some oil at Walmart really cheap. I buy it by the gallon. Its called Canola Oil. I think it is made from corn? Works great though. Cant be found in the automotive section, they stock it near the cooking oils. Good luck. Peace out, BEN

Foggy - Another great oil. I haven't seen any tests on used oil or how it compares to Redline, Purple, or Mobil 1 for a while.

OK as promised, here is a picture of where I took tin snips to my lower air deflector / shield and made it a little easier for us. You only have to take out 8 bolts and a clip now instead of 14 bolts and a clip. In my case that would also mean that I would have to remount my splitter each time I did an oil change. Below is the picture. In a day or two I will do a complete write-up on the oil change process, tools, parts, and part numbers for those that are interested.
I will start a new thread to make it easier for those that didn't get a chance to see how this all developed.
This 15min oil change turned into a 2 hour project so that I could take the pictures and document so of this neat stuff. Heck, I wasn't doing much this afternoon .... so it was fun.
A couple more pictures so you can see how this effects the front end:
BTW I used Mobil 1 5W-30. Only needs 5 quarts so really that means the oil, filter, and drain plug washer only cost a total of about ~$25. I'll post exact amounts with P/N etc.... ;)

Yeah, I noticed that after a couple of months I had three, yes three little chips on my front bumper. I decided at that point, since my Firebird which you see in one of the pictures above only had two chips on it after 7 years; that the 350Z bumper was too vertical or, the paint was really soft. So, I did two things. I Crystal Guarded the car. Crystal Guard is 7 times harder than iron nails and then I bought a Colgan bra.
See the dog even likes it ..... Lol:
Normally, I wouldn't buy a bra for a car but I thought the Colgan bra looked fairly good. I figured since I was going to use the Z as my commuter car that I needed the added protection against the gravel trucks
around here.
I take it off for the weekends and am glad I bought it. I saw a guy a couple of days ago with one. He had a SB and you could hardly see it on the car.
Thumbs up.... worth the $89 to have the car chip free.
;)

I like and use Redline in Engine/Tranny adn Diff. It is not the most expensive stuff out there. Try shopping for shell Helix that sells around for 60.00 to 80.00 per quart.
