A&Q about 350Z
Q:
I know, it isn't much. But have set aside $3K to do something to my new, '05 SB z, Touring.
I would love to hear some experience based opinions on what to do with $3K on a stock touring.
Some guidelines:
1. I don't want to void the warranty.
2. I am not very experienced in the modification, mechanical or racing world.
3. I would appreciate setting my z apart with physical appearance enhancements (front end)
4. I have some ideas: tinting the windows (with a cool looking, not guady, color tint) a radar detector that i can put the sensor in the front and rear and have the "unit" in the place the nav. system would be, a performance computer that reports hp, 1/4 and 0-60. (I escort makes one??),
Thanks for your ideas. I don't have money sitting around so I want to make the best decisions and I believe the folks on this site can provide some great ideas!

zBoone05,
Toys or tools? In otherwords, do you want to individualize your Z with performance components or stuff that does nothing for Zero to 60 and lateral G's. Wheels and tires will consume half of your budget but it serves two purposes. It makes the standard Z your Z quicker than anything. Aero parts take that another step but cheap parts tell the story about the owner. CAI kits and cat-back exhaust systems add to the thrill factor, but Nissan isn't big on the CAIs.
I've seen people on this web site complain about the stock sound system and they may be right, but if I want great sound, I'll get that at home. The only sound I care about is from the VQ engine.
If you want to make your head spin, just go onto Ebay and call up a search for 350Z in the auto parts section. The Z is the Harley-Davidson of aftermarket components. Hope this helps. Enjoy_

A set of volk rims or I get a nizmo exhaust and save the leftover change for a new body kit.

since it doesn't seem like your really interested in going performace due to anything that significantly gives you a difference would be voiding the warranty...
and you also want to set your Z apart from the rest... pick a good set of rims... and try not to blow your whole wad on it...
and with the leftovers just get a simple but tasteful front chin spoiler and if you like a rear bumper... some have better curves or features... like the INGs rear bumper or Greddy i think are pretty nice... i Dunno i don't have a pic in front of me but you get the idea... also follow a couple of people's suggestions and do the chrome overlays on the front grille to accentuate the SB and chrome grille... i think it would look nice...
The Nismo Front chin spoiler and rear deck spoiler can both be found in Carbon Fiber... since your Z is Super Black... it wont be a HUGE difference in color... and still add the more sporty look to your ride...
I wanted a super black soo damn bad but couldn't find a dealer who would work with me... so please excuse me if i live through you... here is a pic of my Nismo spoiler...
so you can picture it on your car... you can find them on Ebay for $160 i think... but of course i had to pay more before they dropped the price...
But i get alot more comments like "whose Porsche is that outside?" or "damn dude that looks like a Porsche" (especially from girls, cause mostly they can't tell the difference sometimes)... but it does IMO look more like one with the spoiler... not that this is what we're aiming for but it's nice to have someone tell you your car looks like another car that costs WAY more... you will know what i'm talking about when someone does...

I agree with YMMOT or just save it to spend on gas.

Ideas:
Good 3M Metal tint. Doesn't fade. There are others out there but the price isn't much different. I have never had any problems with the 3M Metal tints and have had them on cars now for over 20 year and still look as good as the day they were installed. Just use water on the inside of the window to clean them. Nothing else. ~ $150
Professionally Polish those stock wheels. ~ $500
Buy Larger tires for stock wheels. ~ $625 for Nittos 555 Etremes installed if you have 17". Then you can go with 245-45-17 front / 255-45-17 rear.
You can see I need to get my wheels polished and new tires. I figure I'll wait until the tire wear out. That should be in another 20K or so. My car is wearing it's shoes well.
Paint your calipers ~ $7 (High Temp Paint)
Rear Spoiler like staticivi03 has. I would recommend the G35 spoiler to all but way to much work modifying for most. $160
Front splitter like I have. $65
Radiator support cover - SS ~ $100
Nissan Carbon Fiber emblem inserts - $25
JWT Pop Charger $110
Hotchis ajustable sways $279
Koni Sport adjustable shocks $600 plus install $200
EBC Greenstuff front brake pads $50
This is a must! Get rid of those stock pads that dust everything.
See painted caliper picture.
Let's see - 150+500+625+7+160+65+100+25+110+279+800+50 = $2,871
Take $129 left and your girlfriend/wife and go for a nice ride and have a great dinner on the coast. She'll need it about now.
If you want to spend $89 on the car still get a Colgan Bra for the front end to protect the paint. Some like it, some hate it. I love mine. I just take mine off for the weekend. Takes like 3 minutes to take off and 3 minutes to put on. It will keep that soft paint up front from chipping and will look good for the weekends when you can give yourself a little more space.
That will still give you like $30 for a nice dinner and cruise. ;)
After that, you might want to upgrade is the stereo. When you get the next $1000 dollars you can really make her sing.

BTW definately (if it's required) instead of getting the holes drilled in your front bumper get the tow hook license plate mount...

staticivi03 - That right .... if you need a front licence plate. Looks much better that the bracket that comes with the car. It cost from $50-$70 depending where you get it but it is well worth the cost if you need to display a front plate.

ROGL !!!!! Yeah, your right! I always thought it looked like a buck tooth.
Kinda a Redneck Renegade.... LOL !
But, have to run a plate in Cali. SO ............... What are you going to do?
At least with this bracket when I go a long trip in the mountains I quickly take it off and there is no holes and no plate. Wink, wink. It gives me a little relief over the plate laws. Just don't dare to run in town without the plate. I don't want to worry about a $200 ticket for not having the plate. At least this is what I was told recently. However, there could have been other complications .... you know how it goes.
