A&Q about 350Z
Q:

I took my car to the dealer last night to have a Nail removed from the tread of my tire and fixed. While waiting I saw a highly modified touring 03 Z sporting an "Active Tuning" decal across its windshield in the service area. I had to go look. It had APS twin turbos, carbon fiber hood, looked like Borla true dual exhaust, fancy Rays/Volks, and blue batmobile carbon fibre b pillar covers, instrument pod covers, dark tinted tailight overlays, and Nismo Front and Rear bumpers. I asked the service manager what it was in there for, and he said numerous things such as blown seals, misfiring and overheating. He said that it had been there a couple of weeks and the owner was screaming warranty, warranty, and Nissans position was no way, and the dispute was on-going, and the owner was bound to lose.

I'm thinking that it should be obvious to most people that if they go F/I and then have engine problems, it is NOT going to be covered under warranty at the dealers. I also don't imagine the other mods had much to do with the decision, but it's all water under the bridge once that APS goes on. IMHO

A:

I'm sure the APS kit explicitly states whether or not it voids the manufacturer's drivetrain warranty. I don't see how the owner has a leg to stand on in that dispute.

Probably one of many instances where 350Zs with turbo/supercharger kits will experience problems with seals/gaskets and other internal components. The engine is great in naturally aspirated form, but not designed for boost. Each one of these will be test cases for the VQ35DE mechanical integrity under forced induction.

Another heartache of the Twin Turbo setup is that because of the minimal room uner the hood engine bay, the dealer said that the twin turbos would have to remve so service the engine, or transmission. I cannot imagine having carefully installed a TT setup, and then having the Nissan dealership putting it back together.

A:

i just hate nissan (service dept.) if i TT'd my car i would definately not hesitate to run to an independant shop (most likely the one that did the work) to get all my service done...

Well, I don't think you know either

Thank you for some validation. I have been saying turbocharging an N/A car is a bad idea long term.. this is exactly why. You'll wear the crap out of the engine.

Of course, if you believe SOME people on here, you can turbo it to 700 HP and it will last forever!

Anyway, just wait until Nissan produces their next FI engine and then drop it in.. safety and power together in one package.

this engine was not intended for boost...just wait a couple of years. you'll see...factory backed

SRL311,
I doubt very seriously that it was an APS twin turbo. Probably a Greddy. Last time you posted about an APS turbo you quoted a dealer. That dealer was interviewed subsequently and it was found that virtaully all your info was either totally wrong or misconstrued. As an example, the info you were posting on the unichip pertained to the exhaust.

Very very few problems with the the several hundred APS turbo 350Z installs. And those very few problems have all been found to be because of non dealer installs and/or tuning. Almost no component of a car works properly if installed incorrectly.

Why don't you anti forced induction people at least try being honest. Just who said APS turbos were safe for 700 hp on stock internals (stock engine internals is what was implied by another poster). Answer is no one. It has been posted over and over on this forum that it is not recommended to go over 400 hp to the wheels with APS on stock 350Z internals.

If you are antiforced induction, fine. At least try being intellectually honest about it for a change. You are ignoring that several hundred have been installed and very very few have had problems. Sounds like sour grapes rationalization big time.

if you do the turbo uprgrade on the 350z, wouldn't you also need a beafed up tranny, rear end, etc..besides just the internals. i don't think our sub standard running gear would hold up. i think most turbo'd 350z's are car show trailer queens, all show no go...for the guys that installed the turbo and beafed up drive-train, you could have bought a 2005-2006 base 911
