A&Q about 350Z
Q:
Who can tell me about the 2006 Z?!?!?! Apparently Nissan has been rather discreet about any modifications to the current platform, cosmetically or mechanically, because I have not been able to dig up a single ounce of info. Granted I work twelve to thirteen hours a day as a corporate finance analyst, I still have done a fair amount of research. The guys at the dealership told me they are slated for a mid to late August release. Is that optimistic, pessimistic, or realistic, and who can tell me anything about the 2006 model and how it may be different from the previous years?
A:
From what I gather there will be a slight change in taillights and headlights.
The 300 hp will be standard --meaning less torque. No change in tire problems..Other than that I dont think there will be any radical changes..

It has distributor plates, and some guy posted it was the upcoming 2006. Very noticable exterior changes, and more subtle interior ones.
I'm not sure anybody really knows. I haven't seen anything definitive posted here, and have read nothing about changes in the auto mags I get.
A:
wait to buy an 07, it will be "collectable" since it'll be the last one....IMO
Tire cupping will strangle this car to death....

I don't like the idea of having a 300 hp standard. If that is indeed true...then damn, I am gonna have to find an '05 still new at a dealer. I was afraid they would go for the 300 hp and lowered torgue to distinguish from the G35 Sport. I also have to agree with a few others, that the Z in the picture looks more like a modded Z than a new design. Don't trust me though...apparently according to "Drivenz" I need better research skillZ. I don't care. I really want a Z, and I will get one regardless of what anyone tells me because thats how stubborn I am, bad decision or not.

I thought the 08 would be the last one. I think the 03 will be collectable. I am plannig to buy an 06 roadster, since I can't wait untill 09 and I can't afford a GTR either.

the production of the Z will continue on for many years...07 or 08 or whatever you guys think will not be the last year for the Z. How can you build a succesful car company(which nissan wasnt in the 90's) if your axing halo/excitemnet vehicles after a few years. answer is, you can't. Nissan cant afford to not have the Z even with the GTR coming out.

Don't know what will happen to the Z in 07 or 08, but i do see Nissan cranking out Maximas and Altimas . At least, the past several months i've seen many new Maximas on the road. It looks nice.
A:
to people WHO ACTUALLY OWN A Z33 the changes are quite noticeable

To those who hate silver, here's one (not so) little advantage of the color: it works much better than red or black for foiling the cops' laser speed guns. Check this out:

I don't think there are any bad colors on the Z (except Brickyard, of course... yuck)!
But, hey, to each his own.

hey, good suggestion there. i am about to start a new biz. maybe that book will help me out too. :)
A:
racrguy: The torque peak and power peak do not typically occur at the same engine rpm. It is entirely possible to have more hp and less torque over the same range of rpm. Since we're on the subject, it is useful to remember also that the engine shaft torque does not tell the story. For example, the Honda S2000 quotes a peak torque number of about 160 ft-lbf versus about 240 ft-lbf for the Z. On that basis, one might wonder how in hell the Honda can turn faster 0-60 times. The answer is in the rear wheel torque versus vehicle speed curve, which is not typically given in the specs.
A:
The new Z is simply an facelift. There are few powertrain changes, and the raise in HP will most likely be reserved for the track editions. Base model Z's should retain the original numbers.
The tire feathering problem is being researched and re-engineered as we speak. A new suspension design should fix the problem within the next 2 model years.
