iPod connect to stock Bose stereo?

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

Hi,

Has anybody found a way to connect an iPod to the stock Bose stereo.... I have been one of the chosen few to be stuck with the crappy Bose stereo(CD skips when Z is cold) and I just want to find a way to connect my iPod to the stereo, using the best way to get quality sound. I know that there are cassette adapters and those radio transmitter thingies, but I have seen many complaints about how those don't have good sound quality. So I am trying to find if there is a way to connect it more directly(short of buying a new stereo, which I already know some have that capability out of the box). So hopefully someone out there can help me out.

Thx in advance!

Actually the cassette adapter can sound good. You can find them for about $5. It is worth trying. I don't think you can get better sound quality than that with the factory system.

I've seen after market head units with auxiliary inputs for around $150. That would sound a lot better. The factory HU is junk.

I bought a Monster cassette adapter from Apple.

It sounds pretty good, but I only use it for longer trips.

Not really recommended. However, the wireless FM transmitter iPOD adapters sound worse!!!!!

I have my XM satelite radio tied into the stock radio through an fm transmitter. It is hard-wired through the antenna lead and disconnects the antenna when it receives a signal from the xm unit. I haven't had any interference problems at all. Don't no if they make one for Ipods but don't see why this one wouldn't work for it. Search for Delphi and fm modulator on E-Bay. Hope this helps.

Thrust,

Would you mind telling me more about this system of yours? How did you get the idea to do that? I would love to use my XM in the Z, but I don't want to change out the stock system.

Thastankanator,

I have the Delphi Roady XM unit mounted in the nav compartment. I use the fm modulator like this one:

I have the antenna just on the dash near the windshield and it even picks up the signal inside my garage. I bought the remote control from Circuit City and use the unit in two cars and my house. You'll never listen to FM again. Commercial free music rules.

For 2004/05 350Z's with the stock bose head unit. As long as the "Radio" button on your stereo face reads "Radio" and NOT "AM/FM" you should be able to use the PAC AAI-NIS Aux Input. No cutting wires or anything. Just plug in place of a cable on the back and magically you now have 2 RCA Aux Inputs. Just press the radio button to toggle through the different channels (ie AM, FM1, FM2, SR1, SR2) The SR1 and SR2 are what show up on mine. Go checkout my350z.com for some more info. It was very helpfull and it worked for me. I have a january 2004 350z and it worked great.

Here is a link to the site for the product.

Just saw you have an 03... most likely it won't work... but I could be wrong.

Wow! Thanks for the input guys. I went ahead and bought one of those Monster cable isomethingorother(forget the name) cassette adapters and it seems to works ok. Very little "noise."

And pablo... Yeah.... I am not sure it'll work. But it wouldn't hurt to look into it.

And thanks again to all for your help! ^_^

I've done the same thing with my Creative Nomad. I have an extensive equalizer built into the MP3 player and I'm going to experiment with getting more midrange out of the Bose system by changing it on the MP3. I'll keep you posted about it.
