just get snow tires and you're good to go. Ive driven mine for 2 winters in jersey with the stock tires and as long as its dry out the stock summers have done fine in below freezing weather. However in snow the stocks are impossible to drive on. I dont really have obligations that i have to get to so when the weathers bad out i just stay in or bum a ride from a friend.

i'm thankful i live in houston texas. we don't have to worry about that.

Look on the bright side, the bad feathering can be an advantage in the snow. It bites into the ice better.

the #1 reason not to drive your special car in winter is salt. if the roads in your area are salted, your car will rust. gaurunteed. it won't matter if you can get it inside and wash it everyday. it will rust, rust never sleeps. if you think tire feathering is a problem wait till you see how quickly that cheap nissan steel turns to a pile of red dust.

A:

because it is a sports car.

Back in 1981 through 1984, I owned an 1980 280zx which I bought used for $11,000 if I remember right. It was my daily driver here in Connecticut. Being from Northern Maine originally, I have seen a lot of snow and learning how to drive under any conditions. At the time I thought the rear wheel drive Z was fun to drive in the snow!! Not much ground clearence, but I thought it did fine.

Now, twenty years later, I have an 81 280zxt which I paid $1900 for and I don't even drive it in the rain!! Go figure!!

My biggest problem in winter is ice forming on the door windows at the sill so that the little 1/4-inch drop when you go to open the door doesn't happen. This is not a good thing. Anybody encountered this and found a way to prevent?

A:

That is a big problem, joe. Did it cause any damage your side roof panel?

Can you see the ice on the sill? My only idea would be to break the ice with a scraper or pry it off with a credit card. Maybe one of those lock de-icers like this would work:

When I discovered that window feature, I thought about it being a problem when the battery dies or if the window motor quits. I never thought about ice because of where I live.

A:

No. No damage to roof panel or seal because I realized that the window hadn't dropped the first time I encountered the situation. My solution--which I don't like has been to very carefully--read very slowly--scrape the ice away. I don't know if there is a de-icer spray that I can apply the night before so that it just doesn't happen. I actually have a heated scraper, but you've got to plug it into a receptacle . . ..
