A&Q about 350Z
Q:
if you never mod the original how will you ever produce something better?
A:
Audi Tt owners are the biggest modders around. Just check audiworld.com
Vett & Ferrari folks are a bit anal and rarely stray from stock. Ocaisional chip & exhaust etc. Honda people are mad modders to mild upgraders. Porsche & Ferrai people are too old to mod. Funny thing is the Vett owners are the MOST anal for factory orig. When they go to meeets its on a trailer and only out for a mild ride on nice day?? I don't get that one. All great cars though. whatever makes you happy wins in my book.
nice link I had a Audi TT and a 350Z and very liked the Z better but great bunch at the TT site, real knowlegable intelagent bunch. Guess we should send Soldus over there ;}

Yep, I'm dang sure I did. However, you need to realize that many cars, at least those that the average car buyer can afford (leave out the Enzo's, Astons, etc...) are built with some compromises on performance and handling as they are sold to the general public.
The modifications made to vehicles are made for several reasons: Aesthetics, Horsepower, Handling or all three at the same time. It's interesting to note that many modifications made in the interest of all three actually improve fuel efficiency as well as performance.
So, yes I am sure I bought the right car. I am one of those that can't leave my vehicles alone. I research improvements, talk with other owners who have done the same mod or traded with the same firms, make decisions based on that data collection, then go mod. One mod is not enough and numerous mods may be needed to overcome the compromises built in by the manufacturer.
I have a '03 Track so there weren't too many compromises to deal with. Here's my mod list:
NISMO Grounding Kit
Stillen Type 1 Rear Spoiler
Stillen Series 2 Rocker Kit
Stillen Series 1 Rear Valance
Stillen Series 1 carbon fiber hood
KurumaZ Front Fascia
Clear Corners Front Fascia Clear Corners
Clear Corners Rear Tail Light LED Conversion
Clear Corners Rear Signal Light LED Conversion
STILLEN Exhaust with dual wall tips
STILLEN Cold Air Intake
Camber/toe kit front & rear
NISMO Suspension Kit - 15mm drop
Stillen Stage II Supercharger w/intercooler and ECM chip box
ATC Clutch & Flywheel
Stillen Strut Tower Bar
AF Carbon Fiber Accessories
So you can see, I did modifications in the three areas I mentioned earlier.
It works for me!

As every new gen came out, people didn't seem to mind dicking them up - I'm sorry - modifying - I'm sorry - personalizing them. The C5s have lots of aftermarket doodads available: some for show, and some for go. I'm sure there are companies busy getting C6 dick-up parts - dang it, personalizing parts - ready for market. Even Chevy has some pretty tasty things to add already. I've chosen mine and I don't even own one.
The C1 thru C4 models that have survived unmolested are, indeed, treasured by most owners. Admittedly, there are those who will still do some awful things to these classics, but most prefer to keep them fairly close to original. I have a friend with an '89 convertible that still has its original Goodyear Gatorbacks on it, and he darn well intends to keep it that way.
My '72 isn't perfect, but anything I've done has been to keep her stock. I had the engine rebuilt and my mechanic asked me if I wanted to monkey around with compression ratios, pistons, etc. Nope. Just give me the 455 lb-ft of torque that came out of the factory, and I'll be very happy.
I'm lunatic enough about stock to be looking at buying reproduction bias ply tires so I can realize what this beast was like to drive back in 1972.
Enough already. My Z will remain stock with the exception of the K&N filter, grounding wires, and some amber rear turn signal lens appliques that look really good to me. My joy comes from pampering her with fastidious car washes, Zaino Bros shine, and dusting / covering to keep her safe from the San Joaquin Valley environment when parked at work.

Joe C. did your post have a point other than sparking a pointless typing battle? I have customised my Z, but I haven't "transmorgrified" my Z. Spend less time maknig up words and more time on your momma's tit. Grow up. Do you drive any car that is the calibur of the ones you mention. Until you can compare (and I don't mean video games) Shut Up!

Modifying one's 350Z comes from the roots of immaturity.... I prefer mine stock, just like i always have. Nothing like "pimpifying" your ride. Gimme a frickin' break!
A:
Many people don't "get" the whole modifying "schtick".
They wonder why you would dump $$$ into a car that already performs reasonably well when you could spend the same amount of money you spent on mods, and buy a car of equal or better performance.
I usually just tell them I drive a Z because there has never been a better-looking car to suit my budget...
1990 Nissan 300zx 2+2 -- NEW FORMULA RED

- '99 JDM Fascia
- 17x9 Enkei RP0-1 (+38mm), 255/40-YR17 Bridgestone Potenza SO-3's
- Stoptech Big Brakes (322mm)

Roots of immaturity, vaporrtrail? Immaturity is not understanding, and accepting, points of view that differ from yours. You obviously fail on that count. However, I respect your right and desire to stay stock. It's a matter of choice, isn't it?
Not all mods are in the "pimpifying" category.
