Ceramic Brakes?

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

Can anyone recomend a good set of ceramic brakes for the 350Z.

I'm gonna have to replace my pads soon and i'd like to get something that doesn't produce so much brake dust.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Hawk or EBC Green Stuff

txsunset - Do you have EBC Greenstuff? My Greenstuff do not dust very much at all. I believe most of us that have bought EBC Greenstuff are very happy. I will say that for the first 500mile they did dust more than they do now. At first, I was like WTF? But, even with the amount of dusting they exhibited during the break-in period it was a good improvement. That was probably the seating coating they come with that was causing the dusting at first. That is the brownish-red coating on the pads.

With the stock pad I would have to dust off the wheels with a California duster each day.

With the EBC's I do not have to dust off the wheels between my monthly car washes. Greatly reduced dusting factor for me. The front now dust about like the rears. Very lightly.

I have a '98 Formula Firebird with Hawk pads on it. The Hawk pads dust just a little bit more than the EBC's. I did not see the braking improvement on the Firebird that I have seen on the 350Z with the EBC Greenstuffs. They do not make EBC's for the Firebird or I would switch to the EBC Greenstuff for the Firebird. The Hawk pads seem to squeal when cold as where the EBC's seem to be quiet always. I have regreased the slides many times on the Firebird and resurfaced the rotors to rid it of the slight squeal but it is always there when cold. I think it is just the pad and rotor combo. Autozone Rotors that do not warp and Hawk pads are supposed to be the best set up for the Firebird and I would have to agree after working with it for the past seven years. I just have to live with that first brake squeal ..... after that it never squeals. I'm OK with that so that I get better braking and do not have to worry about warped rotors anymore.

"I was told that the Hawk Performance Ceramic is the best (ultra-low) for the least amount of dust. On the other hand, a friend of mine said that ceramic pads have a tendency to cut into the rotors?"

I agree with this statement. Hawk Ceramics would probably cut into the rotor a bit more than the EBC. You really don't need anything more for a street and strip car. IMHO The reason I say street and strip is because the EBC's do quite well on the road course as well. They don't seem to fade levels most of us amatures run at. So, I have been told. I like the green color too!

sluggoZ - That is interesting. Maybe Combo of how hard the rotor is or, those people haven't tried EBC's yet. I may have to try NAPA pads on my Firebird maybe they are even lower dust than the Hawks, EBC's and are quiet.

txsunset - Point taken. I just didn't want 350PEEPZ to rule out the EBC's. I have been quite happy with mine. I also wasn't sure if he was locked in on the Ceramics or not. But if he is ..... Maybe the Cermic Hawks would be better for him.

I use Ceramics and Hi Temp Brake fluid on my Motorhome to combat the heat that sucker produces braking downhill with a boat on the rear. So, Ceramics are better. I do not see that they are needed on the Z in most applications. I do get the dreaded cold squeak on the Motorhome now that I think of it. Somehow on a Truck it doesn't bother me as much. :)
And like I said before it only happens on the first stop.

txsunset - Your input is appreciated. You have valid and good points here.

Here is a picture of the EBC's install sumitted by a fellow 350Z owner:

Here is a picture of my dog Misha checking them out. I think she likes them or, maybe it's the tires she likes. LOL !!! These have had 200-300 miles on them since the last car wash. They look so much better than when the old pads were on there.

Where's the best place to get the EBCs?

A:

hey mec...What is the difference between the EBC V4 Greenstuff Sport Formula Brake Pads & the EBC V2 Redstuff Sport Formula Brake Pads?
Is the Redstuff more for racing? Now...you got me thinkin'..... I'm leaning towards EBC!
