I am just about sure in the end Nissans stock comment is going to be if you abuse your car it will show faster tire wear. Not their fault. the demographic group that buys z"s just happens to be all hot rodders. Its not their fault that the tires wear so fast. Yada, Yada, Yada. Etc: :( :( :(
There is no end to this pile of offal. It will just get higher. The end results will be value will be rock bottom. Sales will all but be nil on the Z and they will cease production. They loose next to nothing. You the Z owner are left with a very sore rear end.

Go to a different dealer near you. I have heard of some dealers taking care of you immediately and then others not want to even touch it and give some stupid excuse. My dealer replaced mine without me even knowing I really had a problem.

if you are within the 12/12 period for maintenance and adjustments and the tires are out due to a bad alignment they should be able to replace the tires. We have done a couple 04 Z's that were within this period. I'd call back and try to talk to someone else, assuming you are within the 1 year period.

The double lower ball joint design aids in the tire wear and the pathetic choice of a tire with a 140 tread wear rating has a lot to do with the enhanced wear. I had three sets of front tires on the car under warranty. At 28K miles they told me that they would be pro rated. I could not see going through the experience again. So, I went out and bought better tires with double the tread wear life and better specifications. The Bridgestone Potenzas that the car comes with have a temperature A, traction A and the new ones are temperature A and traction AA. They were almost half the cost and the car drives like a dream. There is no crowl upon slowing down or when driving slow. So, we will see how they hold up in 10K miles. But, Nissan has cured me of their products and this will be the last one... Carlos Goshn the Frenchman and Renault and Nissan will never get another sale from me. Oh, did you see where the new Maxima failed the side impact test? At 32 miles an hour the driver's side of the car caved in and crushed the driver's space. I have a 2000 Maxima and it did not have the problem. Basically, you can attribute the build quality issues with the new Renault management. It really is sad as I have had Nissan/Datsun cars for years and loved them all. Heck, I love the 350Z if it did not eat tires. But, that just adds to the list of problems I have experienced with the car. The transmission was replaced under warranty for the input shaft bearing howl, the rear axle bearings were replaced due to the crunching sounds they made. The seat covers were replaced due to the cheap material Nissan chose when they first build the cars. The window guides were relaced since there were the glass streaks. The brakes were replaced due to the rotors being warped. The injectors were replaced since the boneheads sourced Bosch injectors on some of the cars. Nippondenso is the gold standard. But, since Goshn took over they are sourcing parts from Europe. The fuel pump was replaced since it failed. Yes, I always kept over a quarter of a tank of gas in the car so it was not due to overheating the pump. The dead pedal was defective from day one and kept falling off and that was replaced. The new one is no better. I ended up twisting wire around the studs so the plastic clips would have something to hold on to. Well, you get the point. My 280Z cars and my 300Z never gave me this kind of difficulty and the Maxima has been excellent. So, what gives?

Sell the damn thing already and move on. If you haven't, there must be a reason.

Buy another old Z and join the boys on the appropriate maintenance forum.

vonsudderth, just so you know the traction rating on the tire is tested only for wet braking. If you want the best dry traction you probably won't be in the AA traction rating. Most performance street tires are A or AA, but look at the DOT approved compition tires, some of them are C and are basically slicks or F1 style rain tires (only 3 to 4 grooves around the tire).

A:

aarrgghh,

Yes, I understand the tire rating thing. It does rain where I live and I enjoy driving in it.
