Z as primary vehicle?

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

Was wondering how many Forum members use the 350Z as their primary source of transportation? I don't take mine out in rain, snow, or even wet roads. Live in PA and there is plenty of snow and ice. Have a 1999 Subaru Outback wagon to get me around in crummy weather and excessively long trips.

i do here in NJ...although id like to get a beater or some snow tires. I dont usually have anything imperative to do since im still in school so if the weathers crappy and i want to go out i make do by walking or bumming a ride. Hasnt caused me too many problems over the last 2 winters though

I live in RI, and I use my Z as my daily, sole source of transportation. I installed Dunlop Wintersport tires on the stock rims, and it drives just fine in the messy stuff...just leave the idiot control on.

I drive mine only about half of the time here in Seattle. When its really rainy or icy, then I drive my Explorer.

First brand new car I've ever owned (pre-order) and between the 6 months of winter (in Montana) and the fear of getting rock chipped or dinged doors at the mall--she sits alot. . . But when I driver her she rocks and turns heads! My daily drive in the winter is a Jeep Wrangler.

My primary in PA. I don't drive in any snow at all, but as long otherwise it's always out.

I try to spit drive time between my 2003 350Z, 2005 Mustang GT, 1995 Eagle Talon, and 1983 380 SL Benz. They all get jealous with each other so I have to try and treat them equally or else they won't run. :-P

2005 Mustang GT

Quite a stable!

I have heard the 2005 Mustang GT's braking and handling is inferior compared to our 350Zs.

What's your take since you drive both?

Thanks...

just me personally, but i honestly think that the braking of the mustang IS NOT INFERIOR to our Zs... my sister had a 2000 GT Mustang and granted i didn't drive it much, but i do know that during my few hours behind the wheel not once did i have a brake fade/failure or any other undesired complication as i do with my Z...

for instance if i am attempting to stop in my Z and i downshift i can feel the pedal...buzzing/grinding or just doing some wierd ass shyt, and the pedal pressure releases and the pedal travels farther than it did not more than a half a second ago...

this also happens during HARD braking, my guess is that it is the ABS trying not to lock my wheels up... but if i have to choose between having the feeling of not being able to stop and locking my tires up... i'll lock my tires up ANY DAY OF THE WEEK... at leas i know that my car did its absolute best to aviod getting into an accident... and anything beyond that was my own dumbass fault...

but when i feel my pedal drastically decrease in braking force JUST WHEN i need it the most i get extremely pissed... ESPECIALLY when i know that i'm paying an arm, a leg, and a left nut to afford this car!!!

If you get a vibrating or thumping sensation from your brake pedal, its due to ABS..

If you get a vibration in the pedal and you can feel it in your seat as well, its a warped rotor.

I drive my Z year round here in Illinois. Snow tires are a must in the winter. Mostly I just drive to work and around town on the weekends. If the family has to go anywhere we take the wife's Odyssey.

I hey guys fortunately I don’t have to worry about weather. But I do have to withstand the daily grind of the 405 and 10 fwy here in LA. Anyone familiar with these fwy’s knows what I’m talking about its enough to make you cry, on top of that try driving a manual transmission forget it. My trusty 2001 Isuzu Trooper gets me in and out of LA traffic. I can’t tell you the last time I drove my Z it’s a 2003 with about 20k miles but I tell you every time I drive it feels like the first time.

Zpoe/Staticivi03,

Thanks!
Since I've only had my GT for just over 5 months, I really haven't pushed it to its limits yet because I'm still kind of going through the break-in.
But as for what I've experienced up to this point, here's my comparison.
The Mustang is much heavier car than the Z and the ride isn't as stiff, but I think it handles pretty well around the curves.
Its sits a little higher than the Z so I think it will definitely lose out on the tight areas. But as for acceleration, the Mustang is feels like a classic muscle car and, not to take anything away from the Z, you can definitely feel it when you give it the gas.

As for braking, I'm in agreement with staticivi03 and I think the GTs brakes perform very well. I guess the only difference is how quickly they respond when you hit the brake pedal. As far as I can tell, I think they both brake equally well.
Like I said, the car is still relatively new so I still need time to get a good feel for it, but in either case, I love them both.

yeah i neverhad to do an emergency brake in a GT so unil you do i guess it's anyone's guess... but i know that the Z's abs will prevent you from locking up... although i would much rather lock up than have my pedal buzz at me for using it...and since all Nissan Dealerships tell me is that it is normal... i'm probably going to go to an independant shop and let them check it out...

Dang Dealerships... where's the unibomber when you need him?
