Had a red one. Handled good. Performed like it was way underpowered. There was not a lot of room for improvement in the engine.
Also had a tr-6 later that would run rings around the lotus.
Which reminds me anyone want a pair of nearly new tr-6 carbs for a decent price? Bought them new from the roadster Factory years ago and set them on a shelf.

280zxfan - How can you even compare that lotus to a Z?
I mean, it isn't even good looking? It breakdown regularly? You can't get parts for it and it's S L O W.
You might want to compare it to a MR2(non-SC) or Miata. There you would also have a hard sell as well.
I mean your 9-3 Saab is a much, much better car.
Come on now don't insult us! ;)
Now Lotus Elise or Lotus Espirit Turbo ..... That is a completely different story.

As a kid I didn't really care for the design. However, I do to this day, I still like the fact that it was so low and did handle like a slot car. It did remind me of a exotic spitfire of the day. That isn't all bad .... just different.
It would be a fun car to mess with. The price on these cars is about right and they are unique.
Not everyone has 40K to buy a used Lotus Espirit Turbo ..... Including me. ;)
I'm sure that getting one of the those cars is like me getting a 67 XR7 GT Cougar. That car doesn't handle or go particularly fast. But, it just does something for my imagination/dreams.
So, whatever blows your skirt up ..... If you know what I mean?
