My friend is upgrading from his 98 Eclipse to either a 350 or the new Eclipse. Everyone is telling his to go with the Z cause they look better and have better performance. I agree that the Z looks much nicer than the 06 Eclipse, but I heard that their performance numbers are the same?? Does anyone have numbers on these cars????

i cant really understand anyone who likes the styling of the new eclipse. it doesnt appeal to me at all. the lines are smooth but they dont flow at all and the front end looks terrible. since the price of the v6 is in the mid-high 20's if your friend really wants leather and a nice stereo and 4 seats(which im sure the top of the line eclipse has) than i guess get it. If he can live without that stuff get an enthusiast Z hands down.

I'd definitely take a slightly used Z over a brand new Eclipse. The Z has a slightly better price to performance ratio, and overall better styling.
I think the Eclipse looks great except for the front end, but that front end is so ugly I would have to wince every time I looked at it.

I do not think the tire feahering is Universal. I bought a pre-order, let it sit over the winter, had the new alignment specs set after the uproar. I keep waiting for it and looking for it but I now have 18, 547 miles on the original RE040's and there is not a trace of it and tires are still good (except for being RE040's). I keep diving the p_ss out of it , trying to get my free set of tires before my 2 years is up, but everything is still fine. I bought a Track model, and haven't had any of the other problems mentioned on this board except a grease streak on the side window which I wipe off with window cleaner and a microfiber towel. I keep trying to break something, but it takes a licking and keeps on ticking. I had all of this paranoia but for nought. I have a very low serial # 294.

HEELL NO, How could you insult the 350Z like that!
The new eclipse Is ugly as hell and looks cheap as shite and nothing like the 350Z besides having 2 doors and a big arse. The 350Z might be more expensive but it's for a good reason, It's one of the last real sports cars to IMO, and tire feathering sux but imagine owning a POS mitsubishi having it break down all the time.
That eclipse is not a real sports car, It's a 2 door galant if you didnt know, same platform, same drivetrain even the same motor.
It's a Fwd two door grocery getter galant.
And there's more to a real sports car then horse power, the galant.. I mean eclipse may have almost the same HP but there are alot of cars these days (sedans) with the almost, the same or more power but that doesnt make em real sports cars.

no contest..............350z.. and anyone that would even think that a MITSIBUSHEE is the same as a 350z in any catagory is out to lunch..i think that the MONEY has a lot to do with these opinions. Buy the car that is cheaper and think you got the same car.... stick a pop can on the end of the exhaust and it even will sound like a "Z"... "Z" is heritage end of story..

Anybody who thinks they have a sports car in a FWD vehicle are deluding themselves. Anyone who owns one as a sports car is a fool. And 280zxfan says he regrets trading in his 1998 Eclipse on the 350 shows once again his true ignorance. Anyone who bashes a FWD just because it's FWD has obviously not driven one. I love my old 280ZX and I loved the 350Z's good points, but it had too many weaknesses (mainly lack of quality). But I would never have knocked anyone with an Eclipse GS-T or GSX. Those are great cars. Sure, they're a bit of a different flavor than a 350Z, but then, so is a Lamborghini. I bet the guys that own them find 350Z's to be twerps.
And as Soulfly points out, I think a 3000GT VR-4 would do quite well against all comers. Be closed-minded if you like, but really that's all you're being. I had no idea how many real jerks there were on this site.

3000GT VR-4 is all wheel drive not FWD. ignorance abounds. When is the last time a FWD car raced on a true race track. I have driven Eclipse GS-T or GSX's and they SUCK. Anybody who owns a 350 and likes the Eclipse so much, please trade it for an 06 Eclipse and take your lame arse to the Mitsu Eclipse forums. The Z may not be the fastest or the quickest, but it is the damn most stable and controllable automobile at 150 mph that I have EVER driven. My freinds Z28 has always and will always rattle and shake like a bucket of bolts at anything over 110. Do that in an Eclipse GS-T or GSX and you will pulling very hard to the right on the steering wheel to compensate for the torque steer . GET SILVER!!!!!!!

The 3000 gt was rear wheel drive in the 2 lower models and awd in the VR4 model.
I owned 3 eclipses before I came to Nissan and all were ok cars, loved the turbo in my gst. But my 1999 gst ate front tires way faster than my 350z has.
The new eclipse is better than the last model by far, the last generation was slow and IMO not very attractive.

3000GT and Dodge Stealth were FRONT wheel drive. The awd models inherited the front-heaviness of the fwd architecture.
New Eclipse is AWFUL. If a "sporty" car is gonna be fwd, it'd better be two things: CHEAP, and LIGHTWEIGHT. CRX = cool. Dodge Omni GLH-S = cool. Original Mini = cool. New Eclipse = an abomination before man and God.

here here spl311..sounds like you have some track experience..i would tend to believe a man that has put the cars through there paces as opposed to some people that believe when they were at a light on the street and went stormin off like they were racing because they pulled up next to a 350. Then they tell all there friends that they smoked a 350 and really they were just racing with themselves. I often wondered why the guys with the Carrera's and the z06's never seem to be driving around town racing everybody to prove there car is fast! Sure these Honda,s and Toyota,s to name a few are quick but there not fast!..... Unless of course you spend 20.000 supercharging and turbo charging and boring and intercoolers and yada yada yada.... for what...unrealible power that looks like crap in the engine bay..bailing wire and duck tape....i see it daily...

i never said porsche was not a sports car. Porsche 911 has its own heritage and it is in racing and that whole program is special too in the automotive world. When you put those 3 numbers together 911 most car people think of a carrera and porsche. As far as your definition of a sports car who wrote that? my mother drove a gremlin for 2 years and she thought it was a cool little sports car to drive around town.
